We need to talk about the (wishful?) thinking driving Cdn health policy:

That changing how & how much we pay MDs will fix the primary care crisis.

New “blended” pymt models, 1st seen in BC, are making this claim.

Will blended family physician payment models revive primary care in Canada?
Family physicians provide care at most medical visits in Canada.[1][1] However, the rates of burnout among family physicians (FPs) are high[2][2]-[4][3] and recent surveys suggest as many as 6.5 milli...

A tactic likely to raise revenues for #ableg govt systematically undermining its own fiscal capacity

1-Charge AHS inflated rates to lease its own hospitals back?
2-Deficits ensue, UCP says AHS can’t manage its budget
3-Privatize & sell off hospitals

Braid: Sell off the hospitals? The UCP budget makes it possible
Danielle Smith's UCP government is taking ownership of all AHS buildings and land — and making it possible for the UCP to sell them.

It's a grift!

The public is being swindled by the Alberta government and private health care investors

The news out of Alberta just keeps getting worse

For-profits paid upwards of 2x as much for the same procedures performed in Alberta's public hospitals

Public inquiry now.

I’ve been researching this topic for a decade

We’ve had Canadian and international evidence that for-profit delivery is MORE COSTLY

So we can confirm this (again) in Alberta

For-profit costs more: investors must profit from our tax dollars

Big federal news for Nurse Practitioners. @markhollandlib.bsky.social clarified that NPs can't bill privately for their services if they are equivalent to medically necessary ones. That loophole had been growing out of control Details are here: www.canada.ca/en/health-ca... @pennydaflos.bsky.social

This is big (great!) news and such a long time coming. We will probably see some big restructuring among shareholder-owned virtual care companies since presumably they won’t be able to charge patients privately for services their staff NPs provide.
