The CMA spent a year studying public and private health models and consulting with more than 10,000 Canadians on the balance between the two. The evidence is clear: where a parallel private health system operates, both health outcomes and access to care are worse.

When I was laid off, I spoke with the others who got the axe with me.

We realized we had all had moments where we pushed back in editorial disagreements with our superiors.

Turns out a culture of layoffs that targets those who are least deferential to authority has the expected impact.
I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

This one has really struck a chord.

Every government treated physician supply as someone else’s problem, until it became everyone’s.

Hey @support.bsky.team What is going on with Sarah Kendzior? Why was she suspended with no explanation? Are you doing this to lesser-known people that we’re never going to find out about?

For years my guiding principle at work has been: “Don’t be a jerk.”
It’s simple but unfortunately not that obvious.
But recently, I’ve met people who act like jerks yet truly believe they’re good.
Which makes me wonder ... how do any of us know for sure?

Cargo biking, 99 years ago. Came across this in a photo archive, unfortunately with no info on who or where, just the year, 1926. But it made me think of @lauragmitchell.com and her lovely feed of her commutes to school and around town with her children.

I guess Canada couldn't be strong as long as the wealthy had to pay a luxury tax on yachts and private planes.
With Budget 2025, we choose to build Canada strong.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Hey BC doctors.

It is not ok to charge palliative patients private pay fees for opioid prescriptions.

Like, ever.

This medication class is essential for quality of life. Changes in dosing are common & essential. Getting to the clinic when you are dying from eg cancer, can be complicated.

For having worked on both bikes and accordions I kinda like that grouping to be honest
Bike mechanics want the government to recognize the job as a distinct profession and skilled trade.

Right now, they're officially grouped with workers who repair accordions, jukeboxes and the safety valves on pipelines.

Mark my words.

Bonne chance à tous 🤦‍♂️
