I’m gonna come out and say it: Vancouver is having a spectacular fall.

- Minimal rain
- But also nice CRISP temperatures, puts us in the season
- Summer not too hot, so trees kept their leaves, creating full cover for nice colours
- No elections or giant weather events to distract from joy

Frustrated with how much garbage you see on Meta platforms?

Wonder why there’s so much of it?

It’s because it’s making Mark Zuckerberg et al, LITERALLY billions of dollars.

Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

🚨I’d like to hear more from journalists & commentators about the multiple worrisome & aggressive anti-immigration elements of the #cdnpoli #budget2025

It looks like a blatant adoption of the (protectionist? racist?) approaches being championed in US and other alt right governments.

Am I wrong?

The Vancouver Police Department has already gone $17 million over budget. Now they're asking for a $50 million increase. The park board, meanwhile, is bracing for $15 million in cuts. #vanpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

A ballooning police budget is not what Vancouver needs to be more liveable.

17 million budget over run
PLUS
50 million increase for next year.

Outrageous. When other city departments (like Park) are being asked to cut costs.
“The optics are, oh, the police get everything they want.”

Here’s my story on the Vancouver Police Department asking for a $50 million increase to their 2026 budget while others city departments are facing challenges — and how at least one board member seemed aware of the conflict it would create.

There are higher priorities for 50$million Vancouver tax dollars.

Like, housing.
And schools.
And parks.
Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.

This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.
