I know it's unhealthy, but I love everything about the pure humanity of this moment.

27 years ago, my son declared an overcast sky a wazzy day. My niece ended a dinner prayer with “eggman.” So many wazzy days since then, so many prayers sent up to eggman.

"This promise of an AI future, is really just a collective anxiety that wealthy people have about how well they're gonna be able to control us in the future."

I asked Trump's former OMB director Mick Mulvaney to acknowledge it's a lie that undocumented immigrants get ACA subsidies (they don't), and he ended the interview.

"Would you agree that not a single dime of ACA subsidies goes toward undocumented immigrants?"

"I'm not gonna do this anymore."

Found among the archives of old photographs, this might be my great grandaunt Kitty Drake Older. She and her husband took a trip to NJ in 1935. This Substack post is written from her perspective, an ode to the people who went before me and left behind clues that might have disappeared otherwise.

I have a best word I learned today and a worst word. Best word came from the NYT Spelling Bee, the pangram “enjambment,” meaning “poetic technique of continuing to next line without pause.” The worst word was in a sell sheet for work: “under-optimization.” I deleted the entire en dash interjection.

@cynthiaekren.bsky.social and I are planning a writing retreat this weekend and neither of us are food preppers. Such a delight to map out simple meals and restaurant excursions rather than agonize over shopping and menus.
