I'm here trying to replace TikTok (and failing)
Pinned
I was never quite comfortable with posting my face on TikTok, and hate listening to my own voice (tried making YouTube videos at one point and editing was literal torture).
Here I can use neither, so time to try to turn that loss into an opportunity, even if I'm just throwing shit into the void.
Says a lot about my mental state among everything happening that this in the most recent email from PBS made me tear up.

Defunded but not defeated 🥰

Probably just a reeeally weird coincidence, but it made me uncomfortable.
I got logged out of my TikTok in the middle of watching a video, and the first notif when I logged back in was a muskrat bot account requesting to follow me 😑

With everything happening, I can't help but think of the theory I saw (probably on Tumblr) that during all the apocalypse movies set in the USA, the rest of the world figured it out. Zombie vaccine, fallout shelters, whatever it is.
And only the USA descended into chaos

I just signed the first bill of the year: lowering costs for small grain buyers.

Prosperity for our ag community is not a partisan issue. I’m glad to see legislators come together in a bipartisan way to get this done.

It's amazing how different fall temperatures and spring temperatures are.
Weather app says it's 36F, feels like 28, but I just cleaned out my car in shorts. Promise you it does not feel like 28

Just realized I'm being Thirsty over a Dean Winchester edit, that's odd 🤔

... I should go put a pad on 😅

if you see this and like Star Trek drop an image from the first Star Trek episode you remember.

Not an episode, but it's the first Trek I remember watching

I'd watched a few PBS documentaries on YouTube. Recently got the app, and there is so much more over there, even without the paid account.

Right now I'm watching David attenburough share about extinct species Night at the Museum-style

I made it pretty much a month to the day without TikTok.

But scrolled for a while yesterday and I have a love/hate relationship with how much more balanced I feel.

But I'm also not having the algo issues. Fyp seems pretty much the same as before, though that certainly might change.

Does anyone have recommendations for "things to feel in control when the world is spiraling"

And I don't mean call your reps and things like that.

Things where I can do stuff and see an immediate change in my surroundings. Like cleaning, dealing with my recycling horde (no curbside here), etc

Since we don't have bookmarks, doing this so I can find this post again.

Some great suggestions in the replies
I need a new silly phone game, accepting recs. I do NOT want anything with battling of any type. At all. no mandatory group playing. No pay to play (will pay to remove ads) Games I have liked: egg inc, a dark room, two dots, hidden folks. I have sufficient sudoku type apps but I like puzzles

I need to go to the grocery store and get gas. But it's too cold to go in shorts and my brain is absolutely anti-pants at the moment 🙃

I convince myself I'm functioning just fine, and then realize it took me a month to make a phone call.

In my defense, automated phone systems are awful, and hold music is worse. (If they let the hold music just play it'd be fine but they keep interrupting and getting my hopes up)

Sometimes a book just grabs me and doesn't let go until I turn that last page. Just happened and I feel balanced in a way I haven't these last few weeks.

Books have been my escape since I was young, and I'm glad to see that even in the current chaos that can still happen.

Well, I think I can officially say I'm having stress dreams 🙃

Somehow people visited and left behind a mountain of laundry and simultaneously there was some guy in my house asking me weird questions about work.

Anyone who says empathy is a sin should honestly just be laughed out of the room and ignored completely because literally nothing they say after that could possibly be worth anyone’s time.

Their moral compass is fucked. Their opinions do not matter.

I realize it's for the plot™ but Voyager crew keeps making fun new holoprograms, and no one could make a holographic medical assistant??
Give them a first aid course or two and I'm sure they could be at least as useful as Tom.

Tim Walz popularized the idea that Republicans are weird, but can we spread the word that Conservatives are mean.

It's true.

Every policy is about hurt and harm. When the Right Reverend Budde asked that man to be compassionate he recoiled like a vampire in sunlight.
