I've gotten much better at it but I still have to give myself a little pep talk when I call out sick from work. "Okay, Katherine. No one's going to be mad at you. All they're going to think is 'Oh I hope she feels better.' And what are you going to do after this? Lie down."

One positive of Boston having streets built for horses is that it's hard to imagine Waymo ever working here.

I'm stepping away for awhile. The news about SNAP, the election, dealing with my sudden unemployment, is all just a little too much today.

Please, please if you see this, share it. We're $1770 short for November. Every dollar pitched in helps! Thank you, friends 💜. I'm sorry.
Hi yes hello! Is anyone out there super wealthy and secretly longing to pay rent/utilities for a single mom and her little family during her second layoff of 2025??

Just got the news that I'm being laid off from my job of two months after being laid off from my job of a decade earlier this year 😭😭

I think it's funny we came full circle so quickly on wireless headphones. In 2019 I remember feeling embarassed wearing airpods bc it was considered cringy. Now I'm seeing people baffled that people are wearing wired ones.

Good morning! Y'all have most awesomely helped raise $280 towards overdue rent and utilities! $1720 left to go now! ANY amount helps, even simply sharing this helps, truly. Unemployment and illness left me in a hole. Help me climb out?
Recap: Rent went up in January, I was laid off, utility rates went up, the kids, dogs, and I've all had urgent health issues in addition to the cost of food, gas, everything going up.

If anyone can help at all, I would be so grateful 💜

PSA: Please remember to wear a well-fitting mask when you’re at the pharmacy getting vaccinated (or are there for any other reason). I really appreciate anyone taking a step to protect themselves by getting vaccinated, but you put yourself at unnecessary risk if you don’t wear a mask while doing so.

It's the fifth anniversary of my cat Piper's death. Losing her to cancer in 2020 was really traumatic. At the beginning of that year I was planning to quit my job and move to SF. Instead I went through a breakup, lost my emotional support cat, and can't risk moving anymore.

Do you count picture books toward your yearly reading goal? I do, because life is short and kids' books are lovely.

One of my first jobs was writing metadata for digitized photos and perhaps consequentially I think writing alt text is fun.

I'm endeavoring to watch all of Katharine's Hepburn's movies because I need a distraction from, well, everything. I am not going to watch them in order because I am a chaos agent with no patience.

At any moment I'm prepared to battle imaginary scholars of Katharine Hepburn about various aspects of her life. I could chat about her all! day! Where's an early aughts web forum when you need one?

It's the last day of #PrideMonth and I would once again like to talk about the itchio bundles we put together for #PrideBookFair.

I put a lot of time into organizing these with Cara Nox, gathering 100+ authors and creating both a big bundle and smaller one, ALL QUEER BOOKS.

I remember where I was when I learned marriage equality was passed. I was walking to work through the Science Center plaza. I called my fiance, then my best friend. Then I went to work and my coworker said "Who cares? This is Massachusetts, we already have it."

I can't be the only one with tattoos who spends an inordinate amount of time staring at the empty spots and wondering what other tattoos would fit there, right?

...right?
