I love libraries, librarians, open data, accessible justice and uplifting technologies. Also, people who are creating & supporting social good.

I have a car trip today. What *fun* audiobook should I listen to?

(Please don’t sarcastically/ironically try to defeat the question. I am running on fumes.)

This.
I expect that consumer-facing AI programs will continue to improve and they may become much more useful tools for everyday life in the future.

But I think it was a disastrous mistake that today’s models were taught to be convincing before they were taught to be right.

One more time, here is EFF/Freedom of the Press' guide for journalists securing their devices to cross the US border.

Stories like Alistair's help us understand the real threats on the ground and allow us to threat model more accurately.

My favorite part of the West Coast LEAF #EqualityBreakfast is ED Raji Mangat's endearing annual fundraising ask. Congrats to WCL on 40 years of groundbreaking gains in equity through legal action and education! Please consider donating: westcoastleaf.org/donate/

Very impressed with BC Chief Justice Len Marchand delivering his speech at the ajefcb.ca dinner tonight in French, having been studying the language not only as a connection to his personal heritage but also as a personal commitment to increasing access to French-speaking judges in BC. (ajefcb.ca)

An extraordinary evening with friends and colleagues in Victoria, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada. SCC Chief Justice Richard Wagner was inspiring - the Rule of Law is not self-sustaining. In these uncertain times, it requires all of us to defend and uphold.

Super-interesting read on how young male voters have been/are being reached and influenced through podcast channels.
NEW: My colleagues & I analyzed nearly 1.3k hours of footage (>2k videos) from nine wildly popular podcasters and streamers on YouTube to understand how they helped lift Trump to power. Now that he's back in office, the broadcasters are well-positioned to help build support for his political agenda.

one of my favorite stories I did at Vox was about Jimmy Carter and his role in energy efficiency standards at the DOE. Truly underappreciated legacy that tangibly improved everyday life www.vox.com/climate/2023...
Refrigerators have gotten really freaking good. Thanks, Jimmy Carter.
The underrated way energy efficiency has made life better, and climate progress possible.
