Introduction time. Hi, I’m Lucas. I’m a marine biologist for North Carolina and do a combo of research and #Fisheries management. The research (e.g., age, grow, movement) influences the management (e.g., size/bag limits) to achieve sustainable populations. Here’s me tagging my first Spotted Seatrout
Yesterday: my oldest’s marine science class visits my work to learn about #Fisheries. Today: At her track meet I’m looking for the pole vaulting pit and I get a “hey, I think I know you” from a kid in her class. Friends, this happened 2 more times and now I’m basically a celebrity

Can you #FindThatLizard? You're searching for an adult Yarrow's spiny lizard, Sceloporus jarrovi. Since the scholarship recently opened, I figured that I would highlight one of my favorite species.

I #FoundThatLizard Can you?
I always knew that I'd work with animals, but I never thought my main study organisms would be lizards. S. jarrovi is the first lizard I ever got to study. I examined their microhabitat choice and the extent of their movement within their territories for my senior thesis in college.

Commanders fans, don’t take this personally. But you know your team has to get completely fucking crushed today, right?

It’s for the greater good.

We are looking for #rstats community feedback on 3 new dplyr functions!

We're aiming to expand the `filter()` family:

- `filter()` to keep rows
- `filter_out()` to drop rows
- `when_any()` and `when_all()` as modifiers

Read more and leave feedback here:

This legit had me almost tears in my eyes laughing during the intermission to my kid‘s band concert. These people think I’ve lost it, but good lord ☠️
Do you teach #rstats? Do your students complain about how lame and old-fashioned dplyr is? Don't worry: I have the solution for you: github.com/hadley/genzp....

genzplyr is dplyr, but bussin fr fr no cap.
GitHub - hadley/genzplyr: dplyr but make it bussin fr fr no cap

It’s a very easy answer!
Reverend David Black has a Bible open and is preaching to the police now, inviting them to join him in standing with the persecuted inside the detention center.

What a beautiful (and massive!) fish. And that girth!! The passion @solomonrdavid.bsky.social has for these beasties (which I mean in the most affectionate way) *almost* makes me regret that life has led me to their saltier relatives
BEHOLD the GARgantuan Alligator Gar!!!

This is the largest Alligator Gar I’ve encountered; at over 7 feet 10 inches (240 cm) and approximately 55 inches in girth, its weight is estimated at 300 pounds (136 kg)!

A true river monster, among the largest caught, tagged and safely released! #GarWeek

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

At my kids band fundraiser and one of the kids won a bag of chickpeas. @dennycarter.bsky.social would be VERY disappointed about how unimpressed these kids were!

Now to make the kids' lunches and join a work call!

I mostly agree with this. But they have at least partly ruined sports only because announcers a) don’t understand analytics but b) won’t shut up about them
I'm of two minds on analytics. It goes without saying that they've ruined sports. They ruin everything because they drain the humanity out of human events. I still like them because I enjoy knowing about things.
To be fair football analytics, compared to those of baseball, are still in their infancy. And there’s still a huge contingent of baseball people and broadcasters who hate them.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Climate Change:

It's real.

It's us.

It's serious - and already dangerous.

But there are solutions.

The science is clear: the faster we cut emissions, the less suffering we will cause, and the better off we'll all be.
