When the Generative AI bubble inevitably bursts, can we please stop taking tech's "Trust me, Bro" promises seriously?

Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.
SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Esmeralda 7 Solar Project Has Been Canceled, BLM Says
It would have delivered a gargantuan 6.2 gigawatts of power.

Hades felt like a perfect game when it came out. And it was!

But somehow Hades 2 is even more perfect. It's bigger with more characters, lots more to do, and more refined systems.

@supergiantgames.bsky.social knows what it's doing.

My mid-sized Texas city (250k people) has ZERO public transit.

I checked the options for a trip 10 miles away (~20 min by car).

Google gave me this as the best option:
3h45m - a combo of Lyft, Greyhound, walking, a train in another city, and waiting

USA has an insane car bias. #transit #trains

The dilemma of being a progressive in Texas: do you abandon ship because it's too far gone or do you stay and make things better for those who come after?

Personal happiness/comfort versus societal good.

It super sucks here right now.

I know it's the least important thing but all the fake gold in the Oval Office is the tackiest shit possible.

It's not meant to be the bedchambers of a mad king with syphilitic dementia.

The order of science:

1.) Discover there’s a deadly problem
2.) Work for years to solve it
3.) The problem may not be gone forever, but we’ve won
4.) People forget the deadly problem actually existed
5.) People decide this must mean the science to solve it was a hoax
6.) The deadly problem returns
Yeah. In 2013 I door-to-door canvass to get my city to fluoridate the water. Conversations went like this:

Me: I used to be an environmental chemist.
Them: 😀
Me: I used to test drinking and wastewater.
Them: So you’re against fluoride?
Me: No, I support it!
Them: 😡 (woo jibberish)

Found at our local Trader Joe's. Pretty sure that's not how this works.

It looks like it's trying to be stylized hiragana or something. Nothing like hangul. Failed on all fronts!

I love it in JRPGs when a character says something like "Oh, I don't remember anything from way back when. I am but an old man after all"

Then the character bio says they are 32 years old.

This is a war funding bill, but the enemy isn't Iran or Russia or China, it's you, the American people
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

“ICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending

About 5 hours into #DeathStranding2 and the quality of life changes are fantastic.

Plotting routes, picking up items from a vehicle, easier fabrication and cargo management, meaningful skills, etc.

Does AI have dirt on this guy? His takes have been completely unhinged lately.

Duolingo has also been getting steadily worse. It is not a great tool for language learning. It's a game. The way it handles ads and hearts is 100% mobile game BS.

It really feels like we are rapidly approaching the point where more text on the Internet is generated by AI than written by humans. The amount of AI slop I accidentally encounter on a daily basis is staggering.

The more AI models train on their own excretions, the worse they get.

Crazy realization at the grocery store. Chocolate prices seem like they doubled recently.

The first pic is from June 2023 and the other is from today. Same product and size both store brand. About 80% more $.

Replaying Death Stranding to get ready for DS2. It is still one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. When the music kicks in during a long order, it's just perfect.

Can't wait for DS2!

I hope this sets off a trend of new couch co-op games. Split Fiction and It Takes Two are both excellent.

Some of my favorite gaming experiences in the last few years.
