so I was scaling some specimens of Borealosuchus wilsoni for @joschuaknuppe.bsky.social and in the process stumbled across TATE 2070, a specimen of B. sp. with an estimated skull length of ~70cm. Using that estimate and FMNH PR 1674 as a proxy, this would give an animal roughly this size:

What an amazing little kitty!

A palaeontological dream come true - a three-week old sabertooth kitten was preserved in the Siberian permafrost. Surprisingly, even bleached by millenia in the soil, the fur is still a pretty dark brown. In life, it might have been nearly black.

If you thought I was done with polar bear pictures, I'm sorry but I have so many more! These aren't my most dramatic, but I love the colours. This bear is also special because it's the first one that made me rush my guests back into the bus at a scenic stop. It walked right up to us. 🌿🦊🐻‍❄️
