100% ridiculous. I'm not for everyone.

Sometimes you feel like crying before you feel like trying.
In case anyone was wondering what neurodivergent burnout looks like: I just electrical taped my phone case back together instead of buying a new one or taking the brand new phone I already own to the store to be activated because "that seems like a lot."

Navajo Nation firefighters taking a well earned break. These tribesmen are apolitical. They simply came to L.A. to help.

Of course rich people are willing to throw their money at any relief when in a crisis. What they miss is that the crisis was less likely to happen if they had redistributed their wealth and pushed climate solutions instead of being selfishly extractive. But I guess that’s asking for too much.

"A request made through ChatGPT, an AI-based virtual assistant, consumes 10 times the electricity of a Google Search"

This isn't a game. This is accelerated destruction via huge usage of power, water, resources etc. Stop using it - especially for messing about!!

AI has an environmental problem. Here’s what the world can do about that.
The sprawling data centres that house AI servers churn out toxic electronic waste and are voracious consumers of electricity, which in most places is still produced from fossil fuels.

I see craft shop owners say that ppl come in to peruse, then buy online because it's a few dollars/pounds cheaper. Folks, shopping indie means buying from experienced, knowledgeable people who'll weed out the bogus shit. That's why you need to pay a bit more.

Nobody ever planted a tree in this photo. It was a working gravel pit 30 years ago.

We need to get over our obsession with planting trees and let nature do the job. The results are just SO much better.

It's also about realising we are not, in fact, central to everything. 🌍

Okay, finally watching the Knicks at Wolves game (because it was on in the middle of the damn night) and, like, I knew KAT going back to MN would give me feelings, but...

KAT going back to MN gave me FEELINGS.

I haven't purchased a single thing from Amazon in at least 15 years and I'm here to tell you that I have felt ZERO ill effects from this decision. I have plenty of stuff.

Today in "why we shouldn't use auto captions":

"It creates a lot more calmness" became "It creates a lot more communists."

Imagine you can't hear this video and are just reading it. Definitely NOT the intended impact.

I find it incredibly weird how AI is being rammed into our civilisation, despite a general lack of public support, and without it already proving itself that it makes life better.

Terrible environmental implications, too. But it's being facilitated no matter what.
Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators.

More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live):

1. Email your MP. Template letter in 🧵 👇

I decided to undertake a simple GIS workflow using open source tools instead of ArcGIS Pro. Because that is what people keep telling me I should be doing. Usually, this task takes me no more than an hour. I have now been coding in R and trying to use QGIS for 6 hours and have NOTHING.

Please tell your kids, every damn day if necessary, that chatGPT is not a goddamn search engine and you shouldn’t believe a word it says. Tell the adults too, but it’s especially imperative to inoculate kids against this
Well this is grim
