I’m Lauren 👋🏼 I don’t have a specific niche here. I might post about books, shows, foraging, my dogs, or public health issues (MPH & CPH here). I might just post neat pictures I take. It’ll be chaos. It’ll be fun (probably).

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

Had a great day at Longwood Gardens and catching tons of Pokémon. It was a good reminder to take a break from doom scrolling and enjoy good moments when they come.

NEW: A searing editorial in the The Kyiv Independent.

“It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up.

What drives me crazy about the anti-DEI rhetoric is everyone wants to be judged on merit. But you can't be judged on merit if you can't even get in the door because you don't fit some prejudiced definition of who is capable and who isn't

We have had highly effective vaccines against measles since 1963. That is 62 years!
Allowing a measles outbreak to spread unchecked as though this is a new and unknown infection is a choice.
A cruel and morally bankrupt choice that harms innocent children.

I know the people advocating for repealing basic understandings of the 14th Amendment want to be treated as serious thinkers to be debated, but they're racist fucks who should be spat upon in public, and that is actually the correct response to so much of the far right.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who killed so many children in Samoa they ran out of child-sized coffins, has been confirmed to lead Health and Human Services.

The vote was 52-48. All Dems and Mitch McConnell, whose fault this is, voted no. All other Republicans voted yes. The blood will be on their hands.

I once asked my elderly Jewish grandmother what it was about Hitler that had caused her to flee Eastern Europe before WWII. "Oh, it wasn't Hitler that caused me to flee," she said. "It was my neighbors." Evil always finds willing accomplices wherever it finds victories. Folks, meet your neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who stands with USAID. Share far and wide. Unfortunately we don’t have $40 million to buy up ads during the Super Bowl. Even if we did, we’d use it to support the U.S. economy while feeding kids around the globe.

Part of thriving under collapse has to be to mourn the life that you thought you'd be able to live.

That will take a while. Most of us are not there yet.

What we are all experiencing is called "resilience targeting." It is a deliberate attack favored by many of todays shitlords, and is a fairly well known theory in disinfo and climate circles; it's just that everyone seems to be in denial that it's an attack. Today might be a good day to read up
