My grandad Terry Carroll was part of the BEF, got cut off at Dunkirk, was sheltered by a French farmer, made his way home via Cherbourg, then went back after D Day to do his bit again, injured by shrapnel. Thought of him and his mates during the minutes silence at VP yesterday.
