I've been following Yukio Akamine online for 20 years. During this time, the world has seen Myspace and Facebook get overtaken by blogging platforms such as WordPress and Tumblr, which in turn got overtaken by social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. 🧵

I haven’t bought a single record or guitar since last year, so pure.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Man made machines mimicking man murder men. Happy new year y’all.

Spotted by a neighbour “ironically” dancing to Queen in the supermarket. “Saw you having a subtle groove,” they said. May never leave the house again.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (2025). Reasonably entertaining but I’m more a fan of Thotch than the Tap.

The Wicker Man (1973). Shocking expose into the dangers of terrifying batshit freakery induced by the exposure to folk music.

The Last Detail (1973). Love Hal Ashby’s Harold and Maude and this has similar misfit buddy feel, but with record breaking use of the f-word (65 occasions). I’m going into 2026 with Jack Nicholson’s sailor look as a goal. ⚓️

Trying to think of an album with a greater quality chasm between the opening track (The Modern World) and song two (London Traffic).

Me and my mate Clive would play Name The Jam Lyric walking to the pub when we were teenagers. Very rarely did we not get them but, crazily, I was stumped with “yellow bulldozers”. Hearing it again now, I’m still annoyed.

There are 8 zines left for sale on my Bandcamp! I have only heard lovely things about this from people who bought copies, so who knows? Maybe worth getting! Lots of nice writing about indie pop for £6.

Love the pounding pulse of London but it always earns its break during last week of the year when it’s practically deserted.

Issue one of 40 year old “music and lifestyle magazine”, The Hit. Lots of memories of our youth. Wonder whatever happened to Paul Weller, Dexys, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cure etc…
