But we're all walking in the night, now, on ground we don't know. When the day comes we may know where we are, or we may not.

Insane quote from Trump’s budget director — “The appropriations process has to be less bipartisan.”

It takes 60 votes to pass appropriations in the Senate, so it requires bipartisanship. If your goal is less bipartisanship, your goal is more shutdowns.
Russ Vought: Appropriations process ‘has to be less bipartisan’
The OMB director said more rescissions packages could soon be headed to the Hill.

We have reached the point in the alternative timeline where those in power change the flag. Just enough so when regular timeline people see it, they know they aren’t where they’re supposed to be.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

Humanity seems to be in the process of solving Fermi’s Paradox right now. This is why we can’t have nice things [ie, lasting civilizations.]

Peoples lives aren’t metaphors. Demand that our elected officials talk about our lives & their godawful plans in plain honest language, because it’s our lives. We aren’t a house remodeling job, we aren’t a car engine to tinker with, we aren’t a balance sheet. We are the people.

@michelmartinnpr.bsky.social doesn't let Troy Edgar up off the mat. This is what the Fourth Estate needs to look like again. Brilliant. www.npr.org/2025/03/13/n...

"Washington has become the court of Nero, an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers, and a jester high on ketamine in charge of purging the civil service.

This is a tragedy for the free world, but it is first and foremost a tragedy for the United States."

The admin is reportedly preparing an Executive Order to abolish the Department of Education. The DoE was created by Congress. You can't abolish an act of Congress with an EO. That's unconstitutional on the face of it, and if EOs are allowed to supersede Congress, the republic is officially over.

I'm sorry, but "they took over the whole federal payments system, fired the career staff, and won't let anybody see what they're doing" is not a situation in which you wait for more information. It's a situation in which you assume the worst. There's no explanation for it other than rampant crimes.

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

After a shipping snafu, the Micheluzzi book from Fantagraphics finally arrived. A stunning piece of work from a master craftsman at the height of his powers.

There was an SF story I remember where it is noted that precise solar eclipses are pretty rare in the galaxy. Moon-Planet-Star size/distances rarely work out this exact. So it’s a higher likelihood for alien tourism. You all in the totality today, keep an eye on the ‘people’ around you.

@ianmacewan.bsky.social You probably already spotted it, but DH finally released the ‘Doctor Moebius and Mister Gir’ interview book they’ve been promising for years. It’s pretty sweet.

Bodies are too high maintenance. They are all the time needing to be fueled, cleaned, emptied, exercised, rested. Constant interruptions to the train of thoughts and applied efforts.
