It was a point of American pride that we do not ban books, that we had confidence in our values and in our citizens, that we could live and work together through civic consent, not coercion.

Obviously America has failed to live up to all of that many times, but this is a big step backwards
Naval Academy forced, by SECDEF personally, to remove nearly 1000 books seen as promoting diversity from its library, including MLKs autobiography or books about Jackie Robinson.

College students - and faculty - not allowed to read about MLK?

Fortunately most of us librarians, archivist and curators take this responsibility - resisting erasure - very seriously, technology being our best tool to preserve and amplify stories. But only if anyone cares enough to engage…backward+forward indeed
This era is strange because it is both socially/culturally regressive, yet technologically accelerationist.

Backward + forward at the same time. With human erasure being the goal.

I think those interested in cultural preservation, archival work— resisting erasure will be *especially* important.
