His racism is more subtle and self-serving here, by saying it doesn’t matter if you you came yesterday on a plane or whakapapa to the first waka everyone’s a kiwi, he erases tangata whenua in a way palatable to a lot of pakeha.

The Tim Jago story is now gone from the front pages of RNZ, Stuff & NZ Herald. As yet there has been no serious effort to question David Seymour. I think it's fair to call this an unprecedented level of protection by media outlets

It is increasingly fair to ask why that is

"Water is the lifeblood of our planet. But in Aotearoa New Zealand, a staggering two-thirds of the rivers monitored for water quality are classified as unswimmable. Only 2% of large lakes are deemed to be in “good health”."

I’m obsessed with the haka started by Hana-Rawhiti Maipi Clarke in NZ parliament the other day, but this speech just before by Chlöe Swarbrick (co-leader of the NZ Green Party) helps contextualize the situation too. Powerful and worth watching in its entirety. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTY8NTSMs/
For those who want to know why there was an uproar in parliament yesterday, this will help you understand a bit more!

The guy without a tie on? That's Ricardo Menéndez March, one of our Green Party MPs. He was born in Mexico & immigrated to NZ fairly recently. He's a strong advocate for LBGQI+ rights & an anti-poverty activist. Any discomfort is probably just that he is relatively new to the Māori cultural context.
