Gazing into the crystal ball to see future meat discourse:
"veganism is allying with big biotech against small-scale farmers and you still call yourself left-wing?"
"high prices are turning meat into a privilege for the wealthy"
"veganism is cuisine colonialism by white people against POC"

Broke: Democrats need to triangulate on fascism by being anti-immigration and transphobic

As a woman, I cannot vote for Andrew Cuomo. As a ratgirl, I cannot vote for Curtis Sliwa. As a racist, I cannot vote for Zohran Mamdani (not racist against him; I just don't like his outreach to Hibernians). So today, I wrote in Dick Cheney for New York mayor

Look, no matter what you think about him, I hope everyone can put aside politics and agree that Dick Cheney was a man who loyally served his stock portfolio.

It's often said that the best way to honour someone's memory is to learn from how they lived.
I can't do this here, since it's illegal to kidnap and torture people if you're an ordinary person not clothed in the power of the state. It's illegal either way, but you'll get punished in the first case.

Threatening diplomats and their families might help the US get what it wants the first few times, but it's going to burn away any remaining goodwill it has with its partners. America will be punished for it eventually, and it will deserve it. China will be the beneficiary if they aren't stupid.

🧵: But here’s the most uncomfortable truth of all: the parasites that have taken over so much of our country - narcissistic groper techbro executives, conspiracy-brained MAHA influencers, pimply-faced crypto-investing DOGE footsoldiers, porn-brained misogynist gooners, idol-worshipping child-abusing
it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people

I know it's fun to joke about, but I actually disagree with the whole Woke PRI thing; it's not sufficiently ideological or ambitious enough. We can do better than patronage. We should take control of social media and socially engineer a woke national consensus, in a much shorter span of time.
I hate one-party systems and it brings me no joy to report this, but the choice before us is either Woke PRI or Turner Diaries
Nobody's really ready to grapple with this, but the only way to deal with this is to internalize the fact that merely being a Republican makes you unfit to hold public office

When it comes to international law, I am morally if not necessarily practically in favour of universal jurisdiction. The con is that others would do the same to you for the wrong reasons, but I otherwise would have no issue with Australia kidnapping Netanyahu or Putin and putting them on trial.

Okay Carl Schmitt, how about this: we remove the veneer and engage in the raw exercise of power and violence against our fascist enemies, and then we go back to normal, and simply refuse to accept that we are hypocritical by doing this. How about that?
So "liberal democracy" can't win the political argument against fascism and has to resort to violence, is that what you're saying?
If that's the case, it strikes me that, perhaps, liberal democracy isn't such a good way to organise society?

I think we should actually claim the mantle of moralism with a vengeance. We stand against a degenerate low-trust reaction which rejects virtue itself. Multiculturalism, feminism, LGBT acceptance: these are all deeply moral. And by fucking god, we will legislate morality.
My entire life has been "Democrats have to be stoic moralists while Republicans get to be degenerate fascists while claiming to be stoic moralists" and I'm tired of it
They deserve a taste of what they've been dishing out for the past several decades. Don't like it? Too bad! Gfy

The thing about that opinion piece from War on the Rocks is that I actually agree with it that the military needs to move past the Huntingtonian model towards being an explicitly ideological force. But I think the ideology should be liberal democratic cosmopolitanism instead of postliberalism.

Okay, cooking up another policy idea of questionable sanity:
What if we put price caps on gasoline? The intention is to create scarcity by reducing production, while appearing to make a good faith effort to reduce gas prices. The goal is incentivising EVs and public transport
