This pic is the explanation for everything going wrong.

It is all entirely because America is unwilling to tell Republicans and conservatives "no" or give them consequences.

And that is because we have a psychotic hangup about telling Democrats "yes", even if it's just so we can tell Repubs "no".
People keep making political hypotheses and then putting zero effort into checking those hypotheses against reality.

One mocking statement people sometimes love to say is "Democrats cannot fail, they can only be failed."

But we have hard statistical proof that the demographics that seem to jump most for Republicans are white, male, less educated, and less informed.

That kinda looks like America failing.

Yep. 2024 was the Moron Asshole Singularity Election.

And instead of soul-searching and realizing "maybe we should finally change ourselves because holy hell look where it led us", too many of us are going, "nah let's keep wallowing in it some more" or even, "let's actively pander to it!".
Tuesday Tsunami would have never happened if it was Assholes All the Way Down.

I continue to think we should just let America fail, as the amount of actually sane, intelligent Americans who want to solve problems is permanently overwhelmed by the assholes and/or morons who want to keep doing the same bad dumb things over and over and intentionally make every problem worse.

Pro-tip: If a semantic nitpick does nothing to change or invalidate a point as they can trivially change just the word in question and keep the entire rest of the point the same, it's a worthless nitpick you should either keep to yourself or only mention *after* you address the actual point.
November 14, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Just got done with someone whose entire response to me was saying "you said something was objective when it's actually just your subjective opinion", yet was wholly unable to actually explain how my point was wrong or what other alternative conclusion could be reached from the facts.

I just want to be able to find people who hate Murc's Law and who also want to promote beneficial morals, facts, and rational thinking.

You'd think it wouldn't be this hard to find a group of those people that has critical mass versus just some stray randos like myself.
November 14, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Well never mind. I followed David Roberts as he initially was a rare person who also called out Murc's Law.

But his takes lately are the Bothsiderism he used to call out, actual apologia for AI, or "saying we shouldn't combat misinformation is brilliant", so another one lost to brainworms it seems.
November 14, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Today's discourse:

People who liked the "we should stop trying to combat misinformation or teaching people to evaluate info for accuracy" article are responding to my questioning that with ad hominem putdowns.

Not at all suspicious they don't like questioning seemingly logically flawed arguments.

I'll tell all of you the big amazing secret to dealing with all the shitty behavior we've been seeing

Punish it.

Give actual real consequences.

As right now we love shitty people and handle them things on silver platters. The reason everything's become shitty is because we reward being shitty.

I'm genuinely convinced the majority of Americans are immoral and/or stupid.

I'm tired of reading patently morally screwed up and/or dumb political narratives.

That get treated as amazing while I'm like "wat, this is immoral" or "wat, this has logic flaws you could drive a Mack truck through".
November 14, 2025 at 1:57 PM
I'm going to give you the actual real smart and actual real brilliant solution to misinformation:

1. Punishing people who create and spread (or allow the spread of) misinformation

2. Grassroots movements to teach basic informational analysis

Right now we put zero effort into either of these.
November 14, 2025 at 1:53 PM
I feel like I'm missing something.

As the blog post seems to basically be saying "instead of doing something about some people being manipulative liars and others being gullible morons that believe them, we should learn to manipulate people ourselves".

And that seems horrifying to me, actually.
This is the smartest thing I've read in ages. By the end I was practically cheering. Every word.
Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

America, the year is 2025, has elected not only a pedophile and a felon, but also a guy who cannot even fucking read, as their leader.

Every studio in Hollywood would’ve turned this story down because it’s just too fucking stupid and completely unrealistic.

Today, the BBC bent the knee.

Yesterday, it came out that a NYT reporter had with emails from Jeffrey Epstein in 2015 that were highly damaging to Trump and were never disclosed to the public.

This is on top of WaPo, ABC, CBS all capitulating.

I'd actually be OK with every anti-woke person deciding to only buy from Epic Games in protest of Steam doing pro-LGBT marketing, as it might make them less likely to hang around on Steam forums being assholes for any game with anything other than waifu or white cisgender straight male characters.

As someone who lives in public housing I've been wondering for ages when they'd finally turn their eye towards HUD.

Thanks everybody with Democrat Derangement Syndrome, I sure like you possibly making me and my mom homeless.
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

My "obviously unrealistic fantasy" regards discussion is limiting replies only to people who understand what I said.

You hit reply and get a short quiz on topics I covered along with testing for some basic necessary knowledge (like 3-5 questions), and you only get to reply if you got at least 80%.
