A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

Proud husband hype: @marthagimbel.bsky.social is on the latest episode of Marketplace! Per her recent HBR article, she discusses reliable data, volatility, and stability as, uh....everything(?) feels increasingly insane.

Uncertainty, thy name is tariff - Marketplace
To tax or not to tax? The uncertainty alone could be a drag on economic growth. Plus: train heists, and student loan borrowers and credit scores.

It's finally heeeeeere! So stoked to spend the week in foggy San Francisco for GDC.

My schedule runneth over, but if you're in town and we haven't made plans to say hi yet, please ping me!

I'd much rather end the week with an overloaded social battery than miss seeing an old (or new!) friend.

did you enjoy creating it? did you have fun? does it make you happy thinking about it and sharing it? then that's it. you did it. you found the secret sauce. "was that a waste of time?" of course not, fuckface. expressing yourself creatively is always worthwhile. you're doing great

Bong Joon-ho says he is “not drawn to franchise films, but I did think at one point that I would like to do an ‘ALIEN’ film… An ‘ALIEN’ musical.”

Oh one final thought: commenting on layoffs posts “just go into tech, they pay better!” is incredibly not-helpful. That might work for a programmer, engineer, UI person, etc. Less viable for a writer, character artist, so on.

Once again: pls just be normal to people who lost their jobs.

To my WB friends,

Saying “I’m so sorry” will never properly convey how I feel watching people I respect so much lose work. If I can help, I’m happy to do so.

In the meantime, I posted this lecture on how to navigate layoffs from my friend Worth last year. I hate that it continues to be relevant.

I'm building out my #GDC schedule now - hit me up if you want to talk shop & hang!

Will be wandering around Moscone in my 0451 hat, evangelizing good narrative design, responsible producing, immersive sims, and funky RPGs (and...let's be honest, anything that's fun & weird & collaborative)

Thief & Thief 2.

I started playing long before Steam & GOG logged hours but I'm sure they number in the thousands. A part of me will always live in The City. Esp with all the incredible fan campaigns & mods *still* coming out 25 years on.

(Runners up: Morrowind, Bloodborne, Disco Elysium, Deus Ex)
What game have you replayed the most times? The one that keeps you coming back time and again.

For me, I don't know the exact numbers but it's probably a dead heat between:

Resident Evil (remake)
Metal Gear Solid

For #portfolioday... I'm still working on it!

In the meantime, please enjoy this big ol' feature I wrote for Retro Gamer Magazine. It's about Looking Glass Studios, the Thief series, and the future of immersive sims - all of which I love dearly: bit.ly/thieflegacy
