The absence of mourning is not equal to the presence of celebration, and it’s strange how many people have conflated the two over the last day.

I can’t believe medicine hasn’t come up with a better way to do mammograms. That is some primitive shit right there.

Oh well. I am making my claim and every author should.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

I think if you’re a lawmaker calling for U.S. military action against Iran, you should be required to post a verified video of yourself pointing it out on an unlabeled map and offering at least an undergraduate level summary of the past five years of Iranian foreign policy.

If a pregnant woman is brain dead, in a coma, and no longer has rights to make decisions about the pregnancy according to E. Bruenig, that means we don’t have a say in what happens to our organs and corpses after we die. We are public property upon death. Quite an argument!

Bluesky really does need an edit button (which no one has ever made a really compelling reason to me not to have one) in part because you need to be able to add alt text after the fact or change it if the description isn’t working

I had not heard of this book but now I am going to read it tonight.
WaPo's Ron Charles, in his Book Club newsletter, on Meta's repeated questions about his plans to review Sarah Wynn-Williams's "Careless People":

"In my 27 years of reviewing and editing newspaper books sections, no company has ever done this with me."

Today is as good as any day to return to it.

This.
This healthcare ceo is hard to talk about because how much death can you cause indirectly before you’re a murderer who got murdered? How do you convince yourself it doesn’t count if you kill people with policy instead of a gun? What do you have to believe about life and systems and human worthiness?

Bearing witness to suffering is one of the most profoundly important things we can do as journalists—and as people. In a world where so many folks hear the implicit message that their lives don’t matter, our work can say: Actually, they do. 3/
