The passage of Bill C-12 in parliament's last sitting marks a day of shame for Canada.

It’s an assault on the rights of migrants, refugees, and all Canadian citizens. Rather than keeping us safe, this bill creates a deportation machine that drags us ever closer to the horrors happening in the US.

It’s naked corruption and a decimation of the rule of law:

“Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to grant cabinet ministers the power to exempt any individual or company from any federal law on the books — except for the Criminal Code — for up to six years. “ #cdnpoli

Sneaking a change of this magnitude into a 600-page bill that will not get parliamentary scrutiny raises a red flag, Althia Raj writes.

This is why I thought elbows up was bullshit because at the end of the day this country has made folding to opposition a national pastime. Weakness blankets this country like snow
STAND UP damnit
This sounds like the weakness of principles that is a tenet of this country’s behaviour. First of all that is…unlikely. Second the Canadian economy is already going to feel the effects of the U.S.

They are privatizing healthcare while making it seem like infrastructure projects are strengthening it. The Prime Minister is allowing Premiers to privatize while not enforcing the Health Canada Act, please do not fall for this.
Canada’s new government is investing in new health infrastructure across the country — to help build hospitals, emergency rooms, and urgent care centres Canadians rely on.

This is against the Health Canada 🇨🇦 Act and it will be litigated but what is more important and the Canadian media refuses to say out loud is that @mark-carney.bsky.social has a duty to uphold the law and stop this. He is letting her fly a test balloon 🎈. Don’t let him get away with it. #cdnpoli
Alberta just opened the door to two-tier healthcare.
This is what that actually means.

This is craven and beyond contempt. There's no justification. Carney is using the perceived threats from the US to justify slashing commitments, checks, and balances as they pertain to environment, labour, and basically everything else.

This is a corporate power grab and an attack on everyone.

Locking people up for being poor, sick, or in crisis doesn’t solve the problem and in fact makes it worse. When people are detained instead of supported, they often lose housing, jobs, and vital connections. That instability drives desperation, which fuels crime and social harm. (1/6)

Carney’s traveling disinformation campaign, along with his Ministers, claiming that Bill C-5, honours treaties and modern treaties is disturbing.

Is Carney “elbows up” against Indigenous peoples?
