A reminder to tackle the task you’re pointlessly putting off: avoided getting my glass frame adjusted for months b/c of social anxiety (What if they won’t do it since I bought them in another store?). Today I finally went (after my partner heard about my worry&my kid offered to join): renaissance!

The awards will be presented this Friday at ASEEES; if you're in Washington, consider stopping by. Just one committee member is attending the conference (not me) - a notable withdrawal in my bubble.
... and the winners are:

Olena S. Dmytryk, “Communicating community: Early Internet and trans* digital cultures in Ukraine and beyond”

Honorable Mention: Eralda L. Lameborshi: “'My Body, My Choice, My Country, My Voice': Kosovar Film, Women’s Rights, and Postwar Trauma”

#IchBinHanna #WissZeitVG

Yesterday I forgot my notes for the Vorlesung in the office, panicked a bit, and decided not to go back and risk being late. In the end, there was almost no difference from the usual session (mentioned it in the beginning, in case I miss a detail here or there). Very restorative experience!

Last week I enjoyed a much-needed research trip at the Wirtschaftsarchiv Baden-Württemberg, exploring promising avenues for my second book. As I work through the material and write, it is exciting to see its contours more clearly.

I recently saw a list of the first members of the Croatian Mountaineering Association:a group of prominent men (scientists, politicians, artists) who used the outdoors as a space to develop their relationships and networks.

I’ve been reading about Rosalind Franklin and came across a fascinating piece on her visits to Slovenia and Yugoslavia. Impressive historiography from a chemist — precise and well-grounded. It’s in Slovenian, but DeepL handles it quite OK, native speaker here. acsi-journal.eu/index.php/AC...

A thread on this experiment, connected to my seminar on sitting. I started with a brief introduction about why I believe reading is important and shared an example of the reading load I experienced as a student, esp in Belgrade, where it was common for entire books to be assigned for exams.
A bit anxious to start the semester next week! I'm trying something new - a heavy emphasis on reading and both my classes will conclude with a Klausur. There is more to read than usual + pockets of time for reading during class, along with several reading-centered assignments.
