10 min before my very first job interview for a permanent uni position - no matter what the outcome will be, good to know that I can do this without crumbling under stress!

Reading for the session on seating in transportation: W. Schivelbusch on train compartment, S. Weiß on airplane seat design, and one of my favorite pieces by R. Gay on public seating and fatness

Last week I enjoyed a much-needed research trip at the Wirtschaftsarchiv Baden-Württemberg, exploring promising avenues for my second book. As I work through the material and write, it is exciting to see its contours more clearly.

I recently saw a list of the first members of the Croatian Mountaineering Association:a group of prominent men (scientists, politicians, artists) who used the outdoors as a space to develop their relationships and networks.

My Vokabelheft from 2013, when I moved to Germany - many common words in it - to show the students that you can improve your language skills (in their case english) as an adult. Funny to see "scheitern" ("to fail") on the list - but can you really fail if you don't even know the word for it?

No matter how many times I tell her she could just reuse a cardboard box, she insists on buying an official one at the post office, "to be on the safe side" 🥹

My neighbor (single mom from 🇺🇦) had an injury, so I walk her kid to school together with mine (+kids play after school) She is always profusely thanking me. Today, her toddler echoed her words: "danke, danke". Reminded me of @enaselimo.bsky.social stellar piece Counting Change:

The true meaning of the phrase “marriage of convenience”: my husband is in charge of foods I never make (kimchi, pickles, sourdough pizza & focaccia) and vice versa

My favorite accommodation in Jena: Plattenbau with a forest view, 48 EUR/night with breakfast, great bus connection (every few minutes) and no risk of stumbling into other Uni employees

For the movie x pizza night, the group chose Martin u oblacima - a Yugoslav film about a couple longing for an apartment (and ultimately not getting one) + highlighting Zagreb’s public and commercial spaces.

I find it always a bit sad to see these illusionistic paintings on 20th c mass housing in Brandenburg (here: Angermünde, Erkner, Strausberg), as if there's something to hide and the cover-up has to be cheap (just paint), often suggesting another place: "I'm harmless and basically not here"

Small kindnesses: my daughter forgot her beloved backpack under her S-Bahn seat, but someone made the effort to bring it to the lost-and-found office and it's ready to be picked up 🥹
a few weeks ago, someone found my phone on the ICE train; two happy returns!
