Our indigenous Canadian flag out in front of our house.

We actually aren’t allowed to display flags, as per our Strata rules.

But i figured that given what’s going on, and that today is flag day, nobody will complain.

Right now, for a lot of Canadians the temptation is to ignore Indigenous people because the threats from the US seem way more important. This turn to fervent and ignorant nationalism is a mistake. Don't alienate the people who know more about your "country" than you do. Find common cause instead.

Reading Baldwin’s “Notes of a Native Son” for the first time. I haven’t even gotten through the 1984 foreword because I feel like I need to reread and digest every line.

This is the time for America to listen to the people who have experience with colonization and/or authoritarian regimes. You need us. Before it’s too late.
It occurred to me that many Americans are experiencing for the first time a feeling that Black, brown, and Indigenous people have had since forever. Fear and distrust of this government.

Not a “gotcha” statement; it’s my observation.

I hope you have community to lean into. All of us.

Man, I just need Kendrick Lamar to turn that mic and direct "Not Like Us" toward Donald Trump’s box—that would be next level! 🏈🔥

Super excited because today First Voice will be screening at @LASkinsFest! So proud of the homie, Mike J. Marin & entire cast and crew. From the table reads to the screening and feedback sessions, to other festival screenings, it's been a blessing to be a part of this project.

President Joe Biden’s recent formal apology on behalf of the United States government to survivors and Native communities for the violent legacy of federal Indian boarding schools was historic, but an apology alone cannot erase the scars left by centuries of injustice.

Some of us are used to being surveilled, having done nothing but exist. It wears on you. You walk into a store, cash a check, go to a clinic, enter an elevator, walk to the beach.... It's there, and you can't afford to not know it's there, but sometimes, you have to act like it isn't. Safety first.

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!
