Without the IRA & strategic public investments, we won’t have as much or any: new nuclear power or new geothermal power, any CCS or DAC, we’ll lose the race on fusion, we’ll lose the race on advanced energy storage. Everything is at risk. 2050 is 25 years away. rooseveltinstitute.org/blog/buildin...
Building a World Without Carbon Requires Megaproject Thinking - Roosevelt Institute
One of the biggest mistakes we can make in the current moment is to assume climate change is only an environmental problem—one that we will address at some time in the future. Climate change is an eve...

Alternating posts of Trump saying he’d like to send US citizens to prisons in El Salvador and videos of celebs in VIP at Coachella. Good morning!

$20 breakfast buffet at the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh Airport hotel. A nearby table of Trump foreign service officials sing the praises of Orban and Meloni, and do an accounting of which European countries “have the least Muslims.” Eddie Kendricks’ “My People…Hold On” plays in the background.

If there was any question, I can confirm that Trump admin policies 45 days in has led major renewable development companies to essentially cut GW targets ~in half, reduce budget for developing new projects, and at times abandon plans for taking on emerging techs like green hydrogen, etc.

What are the odds that Trump knows who Lech Walesa is? 10%?

A couple chapters into @edwardfishman.bsky.social ‘s new book “Chokepoints” I couldn’t recommend it enough. Riveting story that captures the evolution of the last couple decades of geopolitics. Tons of relevant lessons for understanding the current US/Russia/Ukraine dynamic: shorturl.at/uTGGD

Removing the ITC and PTC would stifle new generation, be inflationary for the economy and lead to higher electricity costs for everyday consumers. Let’s see how deep the admins animus towards renewables really goes

Parroting the Russian geopolitical “position” more every day! Go USA!
russia foreign minister lavrov praising trump for claiming ukraine started the war

“no western leaders had ever said that, but he had said it several times. this is already a signal that he understands our position.”

Finally a leader who understands how modern warfare works. Whichever side can deadlift more typically wins…

From direct experience, this appears to be true. As Jael covers, this extends to projects that simply need the ACOE to issue a letter stating there is “No permit needed” from them for a project to proceed.

Used to be an easy request. This could halt GWs of renewables development in its tracks.
Huge: The Army Corps of Engineers has confirmed to me that it has halted evaluations for pending permit actions related to renewables.

The most confusing part? Its unclear why, and the EO they cited in their statement to me doesn't even mention renewable energy.

What’s the political version of this Luka Doncic trade? Trump just like, suddenly decides to place heavy tariffs on our close ally, like Canada or something?

“Today, representatives of the Agency's front office and DOGE instructed me to violate the due process of our employees by issuing immediate termination notices to a group of employees.”

You love to see it.
Look at this terrifying scene: happy, healthy animals running through co-located wind and solar energy farm cranking out clean energy in a grassy field.

I can see now why people would rather have a field of oil pumps and pipelines instead 🤦‍♂️

Ok a 7.0 earthquake closely off the coast of nothern California seems like an event Bluesky would best be able to cover, given the movement of scientists over here. Is anyone giving quick thoughts on level of concern? Am I correct that 7.0 is the low end of what could potentially cause a tsunami?

At least from what I’ve seen in the industry, this is a novel approach to combine agrivoltaics with wine grapes. I expect to see a lot of clever jokes about this in developer circles this week, hopefully followed very quickly by plans to pilot this concept where possible

Insightful article from this summer that considered what could happen to the IRA under an incoming Trump admin. Even if full repeal isn’t likely, look for the landmark Biden climate/manufacturing program to be reconfigured and neutered
this was in fact my first story at heatmap

a repeal is far less likely than the law simply no longer driving faster decarb
