Fifty years after sinking, the Edmund Fitzgerald freighter remains the most famous shipwreck in the Great Lakes.

The mystery surrounding the Fitzgerald’s demise captured the public’s imagination, and the tragedy has been immortalized in song, books, and documentaries. 🧵⬇️

There aren't any elections close to where I am (in Nebraska), but I'm hopeful for favorable results in the elections that are taking place across the country today

Do something about it, you evil bastards.

This is not who we are.

NE is a state that welcomes our neighbors and values the contributions of local moms, dads, coworkers, neighbors, and friends. We don't want to be known as a state that separates families & locks up members of our communities in ICE detainment camps. neappleseed.org/49711

So, I'm going to be looking at getting a new car soon. Has anyone purchased a car through carvana (or a similar site)? Any pros, cons or tips to share (including what cars to consider)? #carpurchase

Sharing this in case anyone here in the states might be looking for additional resources given what's been going on lately.
There are so many things I want to say right now, but really, none of those things will make a difference. Instead, please fill this thread with information about similar resources that will still be here in 30 days.

Heads up to those in Omaha
ICE may be in our communities, but our rights don't disappear. We're watching this situation closely and working with partners to inform next steps. Regardless of our immigration status, all of us have rights and all of us belong.
Immigration raids reported at plants in Omaha
Multiple raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been reported in the Omaha area on Tuesday morning.

Hey folks,

I have a huge request for Pride:

Trevor Project is recruiting for a landmark new study. If you are LGBTQ, in the United States, and between 13-24 or know someone who is, pass this along to them.

Trevor’s research has led to meaningful defenses of queer and trans lives.

Take the survey

One perk of working at a university library (who also works on Sundays) - the traditional end of semester close down! Which means I get a long weekend and don't have to worry about finding coverage!

The Trump administration fired Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla D. Hayden as part of their sweeping book ban efforts. One of the titles removed? Freckleface Strawberry, a children’s book about self-acceptance. Seriously, who gets offended by that?

Random PSA: check out your local library if you haven't before! Besides the perk that book borrowing will save you money, they may also have other things you can borrow as well, like video games, movies, CD's, board games, and even tools. Check out what group gatherings or classes they have.

As someone who is #asexual, I'd like to share this list of resources to anyone who is curious about the identity (especially after Rowling's tweet). Of course I'll be willing to answer any questions to the best of my ability, if anyone wants more info.
I appreciate the outpouring of support for #asexual people over the last few days... but I'd like to point out: asexuals haven't just been "quietly minding our own business," we've been mobilizing a lot of activism!

A quick thread of ace activists and activism movements that deserve more love:
