Serious question: do we watch the shit out of Colbert until next May and send his ratings *even higher* to underscore what a sham this is, or does that only wind up helping the corporate mofos who bowed to Voldemort?

Breaking news (lol): SCOTUS is a disgrace. Grateful to SS, KBJ and EK for their critical voices.
“When the Executive publicly announces its intent to break the law, and then executes on that promise, it is the Judiciary’s duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it.”

Yes, “disaster” is the correct word – this is a public health catastrophe. The pressure for him to resign should begin tonight, and continue until it happens. Nothing else should be in front of this. Go to a 19th century cemetery anywhere in this country to know why.
RFK Jr.‘s extreme anti-vax views — and his related conflicts of interest — were a huge problem during his confirmation process.

So he promised not to change the vaccine advisory panel.

Today, he fired every single expert on that panel. It's a public health disaster.
RFK Jr. ousts entire CDC vaccine advisory committee
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has removed every member of a scientific committee that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on how to use vaccines.

Good illustration of GOP. They thought they had an agreement to take health care coverage from 10 million Americans. But hardliners killed the budget bill for now because they say that’s not nearly enough people www.axios.com/newsletters/...

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

If you're a reporter in a White House press briefing as the spokesperson for the government asserts flatly that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang who's guilty of human trafficking and you sit there silently without shouting out "PROVE IT!" I'd like to invite you to go fuck yourself.

took a few days off for my brain and one pretty alarming observation i have is just how easy it is to not hear about the bad stuff that is happening if you don't explicitly dip into specific information streams (not a new problem but feels orders of magnitude more siloed than even 2-3 years ago)

8/ This is a watershed moment, as Trump thumbs his nose at a Supreme Court ruling, gaslighting the public by pretending his won 9-0 when he lost 9-0.

If we normalize this, there's no end. He can lock up or remove anyone. We will no longer exist in a democracy.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

Forget about the legal case.

A man was wrongly deported and placed in a notorious prison with leaders of a gang out to get him.

Anyone with an ounce of basic human decency would fix the mistake and return that man to the United States
