It has boggled my mind since I was sixteen that the moral hazard of driving does not weigh on literally everyone all the time.

I hate it! I don't want to risk ruining or ending someone's life just to get to the damn grocery store, but where I live, I have to, every day.
You can be the safest, most attentive driver in the world and still pose a massive risk to other road users. That’s because cars and car dependency are inherently dangerous.

This doesn’t mean you’re a bad person if you drive, but I do think that drivers should acknowledge their role in this system.

I spent the last 5 days with a mix-mode commute: subway, go train and bike. Two mornings there were subway delays. In one case it cleared and I got to where I was going and in the other case there was a two hour closure and I had to go to a completely different go station to get my train.

If I knew the answer to "how do we get more women into <insert STEM related thing here>" I'd have made my fortune selling the idea*.

So just because I AM a woman in STEM pls stop asking.

*actually I do have an idea but it involves dismantling the patriarchy and no one is willing to hear that

Have you ever been in a car, seen someone you know in the street and tried to get their attention? It just doesn’t work and is a super frustrating interaction.

More walking and cycling creates friendlier neighbourhoods as people can easily recognise each other, stop and interact.

I’m always confused when people complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs.

The vast majority of drivers do a “rolling stop” (i.e., they don’t actually stop) when possible.

This is so normal people don’t even see it as breaking the law, but when cyclists do the same thing, it stands out.

I found this to be an interesting discussion, with some points I hadn't previously considered, but it didn't touch on some my personal reasons for always wearing a helmet.

We already voted, so we enjoyed the Robarts cherry blossoms at lunch. The polling station we biked past looked busy.

Prepping my controversial climate takes for next week:

- beef tastes good but is very bad
- flying is fun & also very bad
- we are using fossil fuels right now but that must end
- nuclear is clean but hard
- solar & wind have limits
- geothermal is cool but digging is $
- gas companies will exist
Someone with more time and social media savvy than I have needs to summarize for me the climate debate happening on Bluesky … today? I got busy with my Sunday and now the circular firing squad seems to be working on the weekend.
