Today, Alberta introduced Bill 9 and invoked the notwithstanding clause to shield three anti-trans laws from constitutional challenge. These laws deny gender-affirming care to youth, erase 2SLGBTQI identities from schools, and ban trans girls and women from sports.

Put in practice, these policies isolate trans kids from peers, deny trans kids opportunities to be affirmed by their communities of trust, deny trans kids medical care recommended by the health professionals in their life ... because the government caucus thinks it knows better.

As a trans person with a child, I’ve spent time in schools. I recall tiny kiddos seeing me, registering something’s different, but invariably, there’s a shrug moment, and we all move on.
This is what’s being protested today. Children finding the humanity in everyone.
