after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

Just listened to @marketecture.tv 2025 predictions podcast and @aripaparo.com's prediction that Google is 100% going to announce divestiture of its adtech division raises a lot of interesting questions and issues. I agree it's likely but I also think it will likely benefit the rest of Google. 1/

Recommending the Blue Giant Soundtrack by Hiromi for listeners of Japanese Jazz. Hiromi is an incredibly talented Jazz pianist and this OST doesn't disappoint.

Any other recommendations for the genre?
Day 3 of discovering new music (and a new streaming service, because Spotify wants to up its costs again):

NoMBe - (poc) indielectro (Glass Animals, Safia), psychedelic rock

Album: They Might've Even Loved Me

Highlight songs: Eden, Bad Girls, Sex, Summer's Gone
Day 2 of discovering new music without my ex (Spotify radio): Rachel Chinouriri

A bit of the folk/indie band music, woth a voice which reminds me of Chappel Roan

Found out about a jazz-themed anime on Netflix called BLUE GIANT thanks to @outlawvern.bsky.social and now I'm gonna write it up for my next @stereogum.bsky.social column. It's a really engaging story of earnest young musicians, and the soundtrack (by Hiromi) is legitimately good.
