Can a linguist help with this: what is going on with the grammar?
1) "One of the things I do best is sing."
2) "All I want for Christmas is you."
WHY can a verb come after "is" in 1 but not 2? Is it because of the "do" in 1? One of my students pointed this out and I'm bamboozled.

I have to say tho it is COOL to know a language to a helpful degree. My spoken #French may be crap but I can understand when my student’s mom tells me (in French) that she wants me to use more advanced vocab in her son’s English class and that I should come see her in Paris.

One of my favorite things is freaking my husband out with just how nerdy I am about #linguistics. Re: eating lunch out yesterday, my friend sends me the slides for a linguistics class she’s taking, so I’m eating my salad with the slides propped up on my phone about grammatical morphology 😂 #langsky
