Glasgow just opened Scotland’s first Overdose Prevention Centre, a bold move to tackle the drugs crisis. It’s time for Belfast to follow suit. GPNI leader Mal O’Hara has long advocated for these centres, which save lives, reduce harm, and connect people to support. Let’s act now.

GPNI’s Mal O’Hara on BBC Newsline: Late-night transport use up 50% from Christmas 2022, but Belfast faces worsening year-round congestion. Warns traffic will increase without reducing car dependency. We need sustained investment in public transport and active travel to ease city centre congestion.

1/4 As Twelfth Night's lights fade, thousands in NI face winter without a home. Beyond statistics lie real stories: families in temporary housing, young people priced out & elderly choosing between heat or food.

Another bloody nose for the Alliance Minister and his party's supposedly environmental credentials.

Happy Xmas.
🎄Glad tidings we bring to you and for your environment.

The Supreme Court rejects the Minister's appeal of the Gas Caverns judgment.

This means our win at the Court of Appeal - still stands!

Huge thanks @pilsni.bsky.social Uplift, Law for Change, @wildjustice.bsky.social and you!

"I'm prepared to give him the opportunity to prove himself", says the Judge. Unfortunately the way he will prove, or fail to prove himself, is in his next relationship. Our judicial system needs to stop sacrificing women at the altar of men's second chances.

Imagine reducing pollution in our towns and cities by 40% simply by making cycling safe and easy. 🤷🏻‍♂️
“It's amazing how pollution has dropped in #Paris in 15 years. @annehidalgo.bsky.social has filled the city with bike-lanes & not only has she reduced pollution by 40% but she’s also been re-elected.”

Trading car space for green space, bike space, kid space…trading pollution for people. Good trade.
Es alucinante cómo ha bajado la contaminación en París en 15 años. Anne Hidalgo lo ha llenado todo de carriles bici y no sólo ha reducido la contaminación en un 40%, sino que ha sido reelegida.

DFI Minister John O’Dowd should talk to the Health Minister and do some joined up governing. Dithering over cycling infrastructure, putting taxis in bus lanes, underfunding public transport, and raising fares is simply not healthy.

Commuting by bike is.
17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of:
• early death
• hospitalisation for any reason
• cardiovascular disease
• cancer mortality
• treatment for mental health problems.

Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.

A Sinn Fein ministers approach to transport 👇

1. Tell everyone to use buses to help ease congestion 👍

2. Funnell thousands of private hire taxis into bus lanes, clogging up lanes and hammering public transport 👎

The sheer incompetence is astonishing and dire for the future of transport here

DFI Minister John O'Dowd making reactionary policy under pressure from drivers…

This is a contradictory transport policy following delays to cycling infrastructure. It undermines
public transport and increases
danger to cyclists.

Policy confusion and
political expediency over long-term planning!
"The Green Party is calling for a transport strategy that is fit for purpose and future focused, which prioritises walking and cycling and the use of public transport to get around our city, rather than short term solutions that will only make the situation worse for all road users."

Attended a silent protest tonight outside Stormont as an ally to Trans folks in our community who have been betrayed by the executive, particularly by those parties claiming to be progressive.

You can't march in pride every year for the photo ops, only to drop our community at the first hurdle.

In August, a Sinn Fein spokesperson said decisions around puberty blockers should be left to medical professionals, not politicians.

Sinn Fein & Alliance ministers then implement a ban without publishing any evidence, so what has changed?

Where are the allies within those parties to call this out?
