Many thanks to the IOBA for the opportunity to spend the next week learning from fantastic booksellers and librarians! So excited to talk shop and absorb all the knowledge at CABS.

But first, the Minnesota Antiquarian Book Fair! Come say hi to us Evening Landers in booth 9. Bibliophiles Unite!
We're proud to announce that Kristina Intinarelli has received our scholarship to this year’s CABS seminar. She is an owner of @eveninglandbooks.com. She has a master's degree in library information sciences. At CABS, she hopes to learn more about cataloging and pricing ephemera.

Trying very hard to remember this is for sale, not for keepsies. Bookselling is a tough gig, esp when you have copies like this.
Celebrating #WorldPoetryDay with a 1902 early printing of Paul Laurence Dunbar's Candle-Lightin' Time. The art nouveau boards, photographs by the Hampton Institute Camera Club, and decorative borders elevate Dunbar's dialect driven meter perfectly.

Winner of tonight’s Grifter Mean Girl Award at #SOTU goes to Payton Mcnabb, who is such a bad sport she blamed another girl for the end of her HIGH SCHOOL “volleyball career” and got the fascists to help her blame it on trans participation in said sport. I hope she gets brainwashed by libs at uni.

Evening Land Books is getting a face lift! We are totally loving our new logo from @bandish.bsky.social . They absolutely nailed it. Couldn’t have asked for a better representation of our business and personal tastes. I’m gonna print it on all the things ❤️
We're excited to share our new logo! The design was created by @bandish.bsky.social, an incredibly talented designer and writer, and dear friend. We wanted something made for digital, but seemingly printed. We could not be happier with the results. Thank you, Kristian! It's a work of art, truly!

If you’ve also been thinking ab direct action, new books to read, and whether or not it’s cool to punch nazis, allow me to recommend the most recent episode of the Conspirituality pod.
In tomorrow's Brief I'll be reviewing six books that define fascist eras and recount how they have been opposed.

This clip comments on my personal fave, Mark Bray's Antifa: The Antifascist Handbook (2017).

“Confession”

If for a day joy masters me,
Think not my wounds are healed;
Far deeper than the scars you see,
I keep the roots concealed.
They shall bear blossoms with the fall;
I have their word for this,
Who tend my roots with rains of gall,
And suns of prejudice.”
Spent the morning reading parts of this signed limited first edition of Copper Sun–by Harlem Renaissance poet, Countee Cullen. It's one of only 100 copies signed by Cullen.

Toni Morrison is hands down the best American author of the 20th century. This isn’t up for debate in the land where I make all the rules, but we’d love to hear your thoughts ❤️📚
Who is your favorite Black American author?

Some of our faves include Paul Laurence Dunbar, Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, or Toni Morrison 📚❤️

My kind of physics 👊
I'm sure the "right to punch nazis" is guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Physics experts agree: CERN discovered a new attractive force, between the particles of a human fist, and the face of a nazi

Thus, punching nazis is as inevitable as it is lawful, and virtuous.

Librarians fighting the good fight, one subject heading list at a time ❤️
Today I get to make an exciting announcement! After years of work, San Francisco Public Library's alternative headings are now live. This list represents hundreds of hours of work and I'm proud of what we've done. Here is the list if your library would like to use it: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
