PLEASE READ! As folks celebrate Mamdani’s win, remember to stay grounded in your principles. Hold your electeds accountable, especially the self-titled “progressives” who break their campaign promises, like Eunisses!
Eunisses Hernandez called homeless encampment sweeps “inhumane.” Then, she joined LA City Council and things changed.

Since taking office, arrests of unhoused people have skyrocketed in Hernandez’s district.

Anyone supporting LA Councilmember @hugoforcd13.bsky.social’s re-election need to sit with his hypocrisy.
Sweeps destroy shelter/IDs, making it easier for ICE to abduct undocumented folks at encampments (already happening) at a time when many people can’t pay rent bc it’s unsafe to go to work.
Los Angeles: On Thursday, September 4, LA City Councilmember (CD13) Hugo Soto-Martinez swept the encampment at Juanita and Beverly, and a fence was erected on the sidewalk to ensure our friends could not return.

If you don't know about LA's National Special Security Event designation, you have no idea what's really happening in our city. Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom handed the Department of Homeland Security unprecedented authority to coordinate with local "law enforcement" through 2028.

LAPD ARRESTS LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER DURING CBP / ICE RAID

Yesterday- LAPD arrested our comrade for documenting a fed operation at Costco in Pacoima. He’s still being held & LAPD is threatening to keep him in jail thru the weekend.

We need to blow this up. ICE OUT OF LA! FREE ANT!

We have the power to stop state violence when we show up and fight back together. Always remember that.
Organizers from multiple groups spent all morning providing community care in preparation for this sweep. Collectively, we were able to pressure the council office into downgrading their sweep to a spot cleaning (trash pick-up).

Governor Newsom may defend us in speech, but he's voting to kill.

His proposed budget for 2026 targets elderly, disabled, and undocumented Californians, and strips them of access to healthcare.

The issue w/ current discourse of resistance is the focus on who the “real criminals” are instead of the process of criminalization by which certain people, groups & actions will *always* be framed as threats/violent while enabling others to engage in extreme forms of violence w/ absolute impunity.

For the added cost of LAPD brutally beating Angelenos for less than a week, we could’ve given every unhoused person in the city $200.
🧊 You all asked HOW MUCH the City of LA has spent so far related to the June protests against ICE 🧊

• $11,463,435 (estimated/preliminary costs thru Friday, June 13, 4:30pm)

• These mainly relate to the City's response (e.g. labor costs), followed by clean-up / damage costs

Join us Sunday, June 22 for A REALLY, REALLY FREE MARKET in East Hollywood. Our city’s politicians spends billions on 🐷s who aid 🧊 and tear communities apart. We know the people in power are not coming to save us. They’re the ones waging the war against the poor and value property over people.

Anyone liking or sharing messaging about cops protecting people at Pride need to do some deep reflecting.
The bootlickers at @lapride.bsky.social are telling queer people that cops will protect them 🤮🤮🤮

Sanctuary is a dangerous lie that liberals have sold you. They were more concerned with patting themselves on the back than educating vulnerable people about the fascistic conditions they co-signed. They will never take meaningful action to block ICE.

The encampment I’ve been organizing did some rad shit this week.
Historic Filipinotown residents delivered a letter to LA City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez demanding regular trash pick-ups and more help to find local housing after at least two recent city sweeps at their encampment led to valuable belongings getting taken or trashed.
Unhoused residents demand LA Councilmember Hernandez provide trash cans instead of sweeps
People living in a Historic Filipinotown encampment said they've undergone at least two recent sweeps where people lost belongings like tents, tools, and pet food.

Happening in CD 2 as well. One of the communities I serve has been swept every couple of weeks for the last 2 months. This week it was Cal Trans and LA County. Not a single service provider was present until the sweep was nearly complete.
Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez pledged to end sweeps in his district. Instead, his sweeps bring cops to encampments, bulldoze people's only form of shelter without providing housing, and trash their belongings.
On the campaign trail, @hugoforcd13.bsky.social seemed to understand that sweeps were wrong.
Now? Well, the cops and bulldozers speak for themselves.
