It was just last year that LAPD put the city on the path of bankruptcy. A year later the department is doing their best to prove my theory it’s actually the police who run your cities, not electeds. Here they’re functionally dictating more cuts to city services.
LAPD found another way to defund the city, this time by trying to overhire officers beyond their hiring budget. The decision could cost the city $3.56 million in $ it doesn't have, and the councilmembers on the Budget and Finance Committee weren't too happy about it

LAPD projects to further defund the city by overhiring officers, drawing ire from city council.
No funding has been identified to cover the $3.56 million overspending.

PLEASE READ! As folks celebrate Mamdani’s win, remember to stay grounded in your principles. Hold your electeds accountable, especially the self-titled “progressives” who break their campaign promises, like Eunisses!
Eunisses Hernandez called homeless encampment sweeps “inhumane.” Then, she joined LA City Council and things changed.
Since taking office, arrests of unhoused people have skyrocketed in Hernandez’s district.

Yes, this is quite obviously disturbing.
Why is Hugo, one of the most powerful politicians in LA, stopping at the obvious? Why won’t Hugo or his peers muster up even a mild condemnation?
This cowardice normalizes the city’s non-response to what has become very common behavior from LAPD looks like.

Here's @cd13.lacity.gov's statement on the Short Stop incident: “The video is incredibly disturbing. Especially considering the tactics we're seeing from the federal government, everyone in the city should be demonstrating what the rule of law looks like, instead of using their same playbook”

please give money and not food, it takes a not insignificant amount of time to sort and stock donations and money goes very far. also make sure you donate to a place that treats people with dignity and respect and allows access to anyone
as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

We signed this letter to CD1. 41.18 can and will be used to criminalize ANYONE existing in public that the State doesn’t want existing in public. And sweeps are only going to get worse and more frequent unless our so-called “progressive” officials step up and fulfill their campaign promises.
