The PIT count's only use is in unlocking (not enough) federal funds. The federal government doesn't provide enough funds for the roughly 600,000 people who are counted as unhoused every winter in America. But that number is an undercount. By a whole lot.

Some LA advocates feel the annual homeless count doesn't work | LA Local
The homeless count is a snapshot of the current population of people living on the street. Some advocates feel it doesn't capture the reality on the ground.

The constant refrain we hear from the city is that there's not enough money for the services we know we need: trash pickup, public bathrooms, and housing. One reason is the city's insistence that the only way to provide services is with public-private partnerships.

Armando’s death has left a hole in the lives of his family and friends, if you can spare anything for his funeral expenses we would greatly appreciate it!
LCRW's friends at @ktownforall.org are trying to raise money for funeral costs for one of our unhoused neighbors. If you have anything to spare, please donate to help Armando's wife Lety afford a dignified funeral for her husband.

This Sunday, December 21, the longest night of the year, is Homeless Person’s Memorial Day. Please join us at 4:30 PM in the parking lot at 6th St and Vermont Ave.

We will remember the people that we have lost to the streets. Please feel free to join us as we light candles and share these stories.

We're hearing across the board that LA County's shift to its own department and out of LAHSA is turning out to be disastrous for everyone-but especially for frontline workers and LA's unhoused. Worst of all, it's just recreating all of LAHSA's worst issues.

All last week, our volunteers have been handing out tarps and plastic sheeting to people before the rain while the Trump administration slashed housing funding. Opponents of housing first apparently want work requirements for people who are disabled, seniors, or both.

Planters and landscaping continue to be installed under the guise of "civic beautification"... but the ugliness gives the game away.

Their true purpose is the private co-opting of public land, as well as the displacement and erasure of our most vulnerable community members.
