Planters and landscaping continue to be installed under the guise of "civic beautification"... but the ugliness gives the game away.

Their true purpose is the private co-opting of public land, as well as the displacement and erasure of our most vulnerable community members.

We talked to someone this week who told us about how she and her husband were harassed out of the quiet, out of the way spot where they were living by LAPD Officer Harris Cho, only to be moved to a spot that made them a target for gang violence. Their tarp was slashed and their dog was kidnapped.

We are deeply disappointed to hear that Heather Hutt has been added to the Homelessness & Housing committee. Most of our outreach is in Council District 10, which is why we know how bad of a choice this is.

One of our volunteers shared this piece with us, noting that he had run into a group of about ten people with this same story last summer, all from the south. Although they moved along after a short time, it hammers home how unhoused folks are so vulnerable.

So are you telling me that privatizing basic needs doesn't work?

Housing, like healthcare, only gets affordable when we take out profit motives.

Press needs to stop repeating govt euphemism of “clearing homeless camps.” I’ve witnessed it in other cities: massive destruction of personal property. Not just bedrolls & tents; family photos, Bibles, meds. Times I’ve seen it people weren’t even given option to move their things.

An unhoused KFA volunteer was given this map by police today, with notice that he and the family who he works to support need to move out of the area by Monday. The areas in green, blue, and purple are off-limits due to LAMC 41.18, an LA law making it illegal to sit, sleep, or lie in public places.
