If you don't know about LA's National Special Security Event designation, you have no idea what's really happening in our city. Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom handed the Department of Homeland Security unprecedented authority to coordinate with local "law enforcement" through 2028.

This is from a city surveillance camera???
This is footage from today in MacArthur Park.

Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through.

The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW.

Absolutely outrageous.

But any time you hear Mayor Karen Bass, Governor Gavin Newsom, or their allies speak out against the feds, remember the truth:
They're the ones who rolled out the red carpet, welcoming ICE, Trump, and fascism to Los Angeles.

The Olympics were always going to create massive increases in surveillance and policing and have disastrous ecological impacts. That’s what happens every time a city hosts the Olympics. fordhamlawelr.org?p=1607

The 2028 Olympics were always going to be a nightmare for vulnerable Angelenos—sex workers, street vendors, the undocumented, the housing insecure, the unhoused, and more.

How will LA treat the homeless when it hosts the Olympics in 2028?

Despite attempts to rewrite history, the 1984 Olympics were disastrous for Los Angeles. Its legacy is police militarization and expansion, mass incarceration, and displacement.

In late 2024, LA politicians passed a sanctuary ordinance. Instead of preparing communities for imminent ICE raids, they held press conferences to pat themselves on the back. krisrehl.substack.com/p/los-angele...

Many attribute the one-term LA Sheriff's stances on immigration as a major contributor to his 15-point loss, but McDonnell refused to distance himself from his previous actions until the actual confirmation vote.

In October, Bass appointed former LA Sheriff Jim McDonnell as LAPD Chief despite fervent objections from immigration advocates. As Sheriff, McDonnell opposed SB54 (California's pretty mediocre sanctuary bill) and allowed ICE agents into County jails. boyleheightsbeat.com/what-does-l-...

But Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom couldn't wait to grant DHS with unprecedented authorization to force local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with the feds. So, our Democratic elected officials simply asked the feds to take over four years early. clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2...

Usually, an event is issued an NSSE designation months in advance. In January 2024, the Secretary of Homeland Security designated the LA 2028 Olympic Games an NSSE 4+ years in advance—the earliest this has ever happened. www.secretservice.gov/newsroom/rel...

What is an NSSE designation? When the federal gov decides a mega event poses a national security threat, the Dept of Homeland Security is authorized to oversee cooperation between local, state, and federal agencies (like ICE).
