One look at Grok’s training data would melt your face like if you’d forgotten to close your eyes as the Nazis opened the Ark of the Covenant
I guess one difference between me and Elon Musk is that, if I was gaming an AI to say these things about me, and everyone could see that I had done this, I'd have simply no choice but to set myself on fire.

Seeing bsky.app/profile/deve... made me wonder if anyone uses passkeys. I've only created one onece, when I didn't notice that a setting in my password manager to encourage their use was tuned on. Lucky I noticed and deleted it.

Fun whilst dismantling a laptop to replace a broken keyboard. Does anyone recognise that connector and know where I might get a replacement?

My almost 10-year-old son has a couple of friends over, and I just happened to have some Osage oranges that I collected yesterday—because I'm thinking of planting a tree—and so of course I had to grab the chance to teach the kids the delightful facts about Osage oranges and woolly mammoths:
The Trees That Miss The Mammoths - American Forests
Trees that once depended on animals like the wooly mammoth for survival have managed to adapt and survive in the modern world.

Thames Water: "Water meters are compulsory now. Oh, it's too much hassle for us to fit one, we'll just put your bill up by 55% next year."

Of course, I can't change water supplier as I could with electricity or gas. Does anyone know what recourse, if any, one has against such rapacious behaviour?

No-one cares about my Bond opinion, but:

1. I've viewed every actor as taking place in an alternate universe so don't care if a new one is recruited and a new film made.
2. They're not exactly highbrow material and so a lack of continuity is not necessarily a problem.

Notice that @aptshadow.bsky.social ’s Children of Time is 99p on kindle in the UK. If you have any interest in SF and haven’t read it, this is a no-brainer.

Bought a guitar. Faulty volume pot so I returned it and bought a nicer version. Surprise! Faulty volume pot on that as well. Soldering is less easy than it was (eyesight, lack of a good bench) so this probably means paying for a repair, which is a bit of a nuisance.

Does anyone know what the current tariff situation is when posting from the UK to US? I'd be interested to know how much and who pays, assuming packages can even be sent, but can't find any useful information.

I wonder if anyone who's not familiar with that last image would be interested to know what happened in episode one of season 1? As it's a 1978 show I suppose this is not spoilery, but I will respond to myself so anyone who isn't interested or doesn't want to know can more easily ignore (I hope)

After asking for advice on how to write a particular function, and getting an answer, I went to my code to add it. There, I discovered that I'd already solved the problem (in not quite the same way) four months ago and completely forgotten I'd done it.
