The freedom to read includes the freedom to choose which medium(s) you prefer. I read physical books - that's my personal choice, my wife uses a Kindle. I read books, magazines, and the fine print on cereal boxes.
Some people are just unhappy trolls trying to drag anyone else down. Be you.

You don't have to be a writer to enjoy these teasing tidbits, these tiny tales.
All you need is a little imagination. You remember imagination, don't you? Or did you burn it on the way to adulthood?

Book Review: "Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It" by Cory Doctorow

Part book review, part social commentary. As a bookseller and retired software engineer, this seemed a cogent combination to me.
A lengthy but worthwhile read

newrepublic.com/article/2027...
How Much Worse Could the Internet Get?
Cory Doctorow’s “Enshittification” is premised on the idea that we created a technological marvel and then corporate greed ruined it. But what if that is not the case?

"A trip to a local bookshop is a present in itself"
I know that shopping at A**zon is a fast and easy way to fund Jeff Bezos' newest yacht.
Your friendly local independent bookstore would welcome the opportunity to serve your shopping needs, and your money would stay in your community #BoycottAmazon
We're headed into the holiday season, so two things to know:

- The only items in the store that are more expensive due to tariffs are: two leather bookmarks. The other 2,100 gift items and 47,000 books haven't gone up. thehauntedbookshop.com

- A trip to a local bookshop is a present in itself 📚❤️

A Sample of Lost Sixties Fiction
(courtesy of Neglected Books)📖

"... a fair number of books that have since been [swept] under the rug and forgotten, and I wanted to take a few minutes to mention some of these, in hopes that one or more will catch the interest of a by-passer and be rediscovered."
On this date in 2014, I gleaned eight lost novels from R. V. Cassill's reviews for the New York Times and Book World between 1961 and 1974.

I am currently working through Seneca's "Letters from a Stoic", and finding much that applies to the current moment.
It was once said, "Gold is where you find it." It seems to be the same can be said of Truth.
"Reasons of state trump basic human decency, the doctrine of 'might makes right' rationalizes horrific massacres, rich oligarchs undermine democracy, and unbridled ambitions wreck the delicate balance of world order." Review | A classic Greek history puts our current turmoil in context
Robin Waterfield’s new translation of Thucydides’ “The History of the Peloponnesian War” offers clarity but little consolation as we face upheaval and conflict.

Let's talk about books and the public trust.

📚🧵

Something that is easy to forget, in these days of barcode-scanning / auto-adjust pricing on third-party platforms for pennies plus shipping:

Booksellers are not merely people who sell some popular books in a competitive market.

When every book has been hand-selected, hand-graded, hand-inventoried and hand-packed ... yes, you become attached. Pre-owned books have histories of their own as well.
