Chloë Swarbrick is smarter, better informed, and more thoughtful than all of them. I don't know how she stands the condescension and contempt from people who aren't fit to tie her shoes.

Most of the media and politicians from both sides of the house treat them like they're swivel-eyed loons, idealistic children who can't be trusted with the keys to the car and should sit down while the grown ups in their blue suits have mature conversations about stuff.

shit's so fucked these days. the government's a nightmare. the economy is stuffed. health services are being run into the ground. everything costs too much. cops are still abusive cunts. most of the media is failing us. we're rooting the environment. and the election's still a year away. 😒

Maybe now's the time to take your head out of your arse and start listening to your coalition partners instead of dunking on them

An apology wouldn't go amiss either

All the big journo politics podcasts are like this: every now and then they’ll say something completely uncontroversial within their own circles that sounds insane to listeners, because the atmosphere is - we’re down the pub with our mates.
The News Agents is a great case study of centrism because they actively describe how the sausage is made and yet none of their audience say 'Wait - what the fuck do you mean you ran a story because some Labour spad told you to?'

Care to apologise to Tamatha Paul for your public belittling of her when she dared to suggest some people may not trust the police?

I expected a more considered response from you. Instead you were all in on the side of the police. Shameful.

This is utterly sickening, particularly the charges under HDCA. Many, many things from the 2021-2023 period of my life in terms of police (in)action related to threats made to me now must be viewed thru this unholy prism.

Have practical policies that help people.
Communicate them simply.
Be authentic.
Don't cave to bad faith attacks and misrepresentations.
Run a serious ground game - meet the people.
The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

My post about the Shire and Tolkien has broken containment.
I reread LOtR (twice!) this year and it really hits differently in these times. He was a WW1 veteran, writing in the shadow of the 2nd world war and his experiences infuse the books.
I guess I'm not alone in seeing parallels.
