“Alberta has no apparent right to secede. A supposedly “independent” Alberta would be an unlawful occupation of land that was only shared with the Crown, not the people who came to settle the province.”

Opinion: Oh, Canada: Alberta is on native land
Danielle Smith’s movements toward a referendum on separation are a moot point, given the treaties that undergird the province

Today, Chief Troy Knowlton of Piikani Nation made it clear to Smith that she has not only united First Nations in Alberta against Bill 54 and separation...

She's united First Nations across Canada against what she's doing.

Smith has touched off a firestorm!

Today Chief Allan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation called for all resource exploration to cease, citing First Nations responsibility to the crown under treaty and questioning who Smith was exploring for.

🧵 The chief of police resigns in Calgary two years before his contract ends, forfeiting >$500,000 in salary, and nobody asks any questions.

No news since Saturday, when 100% of stories were reprints of police-friendly public statements.

I have a few ideas about what might have happened. 1/

Still no details on what caused Chief Neufeld to resign, but I’d had this cooking for months when I heard the news today:

Calgary police will pick up this very tweet via their Hootsuite surveillance system the moment I hit Post.

The Liberals Are Dodging Questions About A New Israeli Arms Contract
It’s unclear whether the Liberal government knew about the deal before it was reported by Project Ploughshares.

This is a blatant lie! I am and was enrolled at UofC, and I was both assaulted and arrested at the May 9th encampment. I have the (dropped) $600 trespassing ticket and hospital visit to prove it!

- People citing the “Rule of Law” often seem to not apply that to people’s legal Charter rights.
- Also, when law professors explain how people were not doing something illegal, how is saying it was illegal accurate?

Hogan, in his admin role at UCalgary, played a pretty central role in the decision to crush the pro-🇵🇸 encampment.

This is absolutely false and nine months in, Hogan either knows this and is lying or doesn’t and has drafted entire public briefings for the UofC President based on bad information.

Either is bad news for a VP Communications / federal govt hopeful.
The policies apply to all - visitors and community members - but none of those arrested were students, faculty or staff.
