85% of the National Endowment for the Humanities' Council were abruptly fired this morning. Four members remain to weigh in on all grant recommendations. #NEH

Fantastic news!
Today we're celebrating a win, while acknowledging it's only a first step in a long, continuing process.

Deep thanks to Anna Sortun and the team at Tonkon Torp for their representation and counsel, and to our partners at the Federation of State Humanities Councils.

The ruling deems the government's termination of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities "unlawful" and allows a lawsuit brought by humanities groups to move forward.

The arts and humanities:

🎓Improve academic outcomes

Yesterday the Senate approved the FY26 Appropriations Bill to keep the funding of the National Endowment for the Humanities at $207mil. There's a long way to go before this is reality, but it's further evidence that none of this - neither #NEH staff layoffs, nor grant terminations - had to happen.

The cost of *just* the munitions could have funded NEH for 33.8 years. When you factor in the cost of the fuel for the B-2s & the refueling tankers, we’re talking a LOT more.

But sure, we’re the ones full of fraud, waste and abuse.

Staff who are being terminated from the National Endowment for the Humanities this coming week received their last full paycheck this weekend.

A reminder that appropriations for full staff salaries were made through September 30, 2025. Terminating us now was never necessary, just cruel. #NEH
