Yesterday, Irish Fine Gael MEPs teamed up with the far right to start gutting rights and protections. Frightening development that should get more attention at home.

Warm applause in the Dáil chamber - from all sides - as the House is formally notified that, for the first time since 1973, a sitting member of the Dáil has been elected President of Ireland. Catherine Connolly’s seat in Galway West has now been formally vacated. @virginmedianews.bsky.social

The story is NOT the internal workings of Fianna Fáil.
The story is Yates taking money from them and then brazenly pretending to be an independent political commentator despite a clear conflict of interest.
An internal row is brewing in government over Fianna Fáil’s use of broadcaster Ivan Yates during the presidential campaign. The party confirmed he provided debate and interview training for Jim Gavin following recent controversy.

"Evidence that the UK continued supplying military equipment to the UAE, despite the risk it could end up fuelling Sudan’s ruinous conflict, has prompted deep concern."

Essential read on the UK-UAE-RSF nexus.

Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

Can you imagine TDs scrambling to change the Constitution or commentators hand-wringing in the media if it was leftists who behaved the way the spoiled vote crew did, in the same (minority) numbers, after several bigoted riots. Not so much forced to pander to them as willingly taking a running leap.

Given that Connolly got the biggest personal mandate in the history of the state AND the highest percentage of first preferences ever in a presidential election, anyone in media engaging this pereniial fuckwit for analysis is pissing in your eye and telling you it's soda water.

The Taoiseach is not coming to Dublin Castle for the official declaration of Catherine Connolly's victory in the presidential election.

Whether intended or not, it's going to look very confrontational for the head of government NOT to be there to congratulate the new head of state
