This is the difference between Trump 1 and Trump 2. First time around, all his cronies were named stuff like Joey Macaroni and wanted to commit tax fraud and go on Dancing With The Stars. This time, they have names like John Hitlerfuhrer and have spent the last 15 years blogging about phrenology.
The federal government's new top HR attorney has said "Consent is probably modern society’s most pernicious fetish" and "Slaves owe us reparations," according to a new report from @pogo.org. www.pogo.org/investigatio...

Article 99 of the 1868 Louisiana constitution prohibited officers of the former Confederacy from voting or holding office, unless they formally recanted and swore that the rebellion was morally and politically wrong. Lots of recantation notices were published in the New Orleans Republican.

Time for the annual fiscal summary on the Spicer finance spreadsheet. It provides a glimpse of food inflation. This is what we averaged on monthly grocery expense over the past 4 years (it's just 2 of us, and we eat very well):

2021 $449
2022 $511
2023 $514
2024 $612

I would gladly go back in time and live in this room. The room painted in 1917 by Norwegian artist Gerhard Munthe (1849-1929). On the wall is an 1885 portait of Munthe by Christian Krohg.

An 1859 prizefight between John McCarty and James Carney. Smellers and peepers were pummeled, Mother Earth was often touched, and McCarty's second through in the sponge after 69 rounds. Louisville Daily Courier, July 26. #boxing

Happy 94th to Robert Duvall. Boo Radley in To Kill A Mockingbird, Consigliere Tom Hagen in The Godfather, Augustus McCall in Lonesome Dove, and my favorite as the killer Anderson in Assassination Tango, where he travels to Buenos Aires on a job and falls in love with the tango.

What was the first baseball park on Manhattan Island? Not the Polo Grounds (summer 1880) but this: the Ladies' Athletic Grounds, near the site of today's Bloomingdale's flagship store. It was built to display Sylvester Wilson's two teams, the Blondes and Brunettes.

For white USians who think of themselves as middle class, government that works like it should is mostly invisible (the mail mostly gets delivered, social secruity checks go out on time, we solved acid rain and the hole in the ozone, vaccines exist, health insurance got forced to be less shitty).
