Another US airstrike in Somalia happened yesterday, near Kismayo. AFRICOM released no casualty figures or other information beyond saying it "targeted" al-Shabaab. This is by my count the 87th strike or series of strikes announced by AFRICOM this year, by far the most ever in a year in Somalia.

We’re so focused on the negative impacts of capitalist tech platforms on young people, but not nearly concerned enough about the screen dependence of older people.
Older people are spending more time on their phones than the kids are
Some think this is a good thing as we enter into an "app-based retirement." I am not so sure.

For many weeks, I really felt like being laid off again was my fault. It confirmed so many of my fears and anxieties. So many friends had to remind me the layoff wasn't a reflection of my skills, my hard work, or everything I had fought to learn with little to no resources. But it's still hard.

I would be soooo interested in reading a long essay by Ta-nehisi Coates or Eve Ewing about what happened on the way to Kirk's attempted canonization. The thing about AI is that it is so obviously not reaching the level of adoption that the ruling class had hoped for.

The way tech companies constantly do stuff that nobody asked for really tells you a lot about their bigger ideology. They tell themselves that you will like it over time. What they mean is you’ll learn to endure it, or you’ll give up. quality of UI is not actually anywhere on their radar
