Trump fires director of the National Portrait Gallery
It was unclear if Trump has the authority to fire Smithsonian leaders. The dismissal marks the president’s first action against the institution.

Trump is fixating on Harvard because they represent a community that he could never be a part of based upon merit.

This is at the core of every malignant narcissist's pathology, deep insecurity and a bottomless craving for acceptance and legitimacy.

Tucked into the GOP budget bill is $150 million for commemorating the 250th, including $40 million for the Garden of Heroes. Doesn’t seem like any of it will go to supporting state and local efforts.

I've heard from a number of people in the National Park Service today, including a chief historian at a major historical site, and they have no idea how to go about reviewing their assets, how they will be evaluated or who will be conducting the review.

These people deserve so much better.
The Secretary of the Interior has ordered the National Park Service to review all sites for recent content/interpretive changes since 2020 that violate Trump's recent EO to "Restore Truth and Sanity to American History."

This is a public history disaster. #NationalParks www.doi.gov/document-lib...

This.

Document what’s happening—and who is doing it.
I was a history teacher and I know we have to be documenting this moment. When we look back, I don’t want us to say we didn’t know what was happening.

Stephen Miller, probably the most joyless man in America, wants to take away one of our most foundational rights, habeas corpus.

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

The scrubbing of these files is closely connected to the Trump administration's commitment to overturning landmark civil rights legislation. Control people's access to history and you control how they understand the present.
"The Civil War to Civil Rights" was the National Park Service's theme for the 150th commemoration (2011-2015). While the landing page is still active, the document detailing the 150th has been removed. Still looking into it and will update as more info becomes available.🗃️ www.nps.gov/civilwar/civ...
