Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

This year, the fiction so far that has taken up space in my chest such that I think about it & contemplate characters: Martyr! (Akbar), Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance (Espach), The Poisonwood Bible (Kingsolver), James & Erasure (Everett), A Place for Us (Mirza), Nothing to See Here (Wilson).
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I don't have a high opinion of SCOTUS.

But this outcome was clear-as Mark & I explained on MSNBC: www.msnbc.com/ana-cabrera-...

People SHOULD worry about SCOTUS & educate people about what SCOTUS is doing & might do.

They shouldn't whip ppl into frenzies on cases that aren't going anywhere.

This quote resonated with me:

the city doesn't have enough tools to take on the skeezy businessmen that actively suck capital out of our neighborhoods and let the city rot.

Tressie cooked here:

"Real working-class politics does not assume the worst of working-class people’s impulses. It does not launder their concerns for political points. It certainly does not argue, directly or indirectly, that a little racism is a good thing for reaching them."
www.nytimes.com/2025/10/29/o...

“working class” has become a powerful political totem of its own — a discursive sleight of hand used to separate out white voters’ concerns as more legitimate, more materially grounded, more important than other voters’ concerns."

Really good piece.

I have no idea if this is a hot take but I’m here for it. And I pretty much always love every culture’s dumpling/hand pie/empanada. 🥟
I've said this before but the pizza roll is (genuinely) the American version of this, and an incredible embodiment of USA society and culture in the 1960s

Very powerful Win at the Minnesota Supreme Court today in Jaycee Cooper versus USA powerlifting.

The law in Minnesota is clear: Transgender people have a right in Minnesota under the Minnesota human rights access to full inclusion and the Supreme Court has upheld that fact.

very cool that if you are working on behalf of right-wing culture warriors, you no longer need standing to have your claim adjudicated by the supreme court
It's not just that they're going to strike down a law against conversion therapy, it's that they're going to do it on behalf of made-up claims from a straw plaintiff who can't honestly show the law affected her at all
