Grateful for the last word in today's newsletter from @hcrichardson.bsky.social. Protests are important because the give people the opportunity to expand their threshold for risk and to trust that people share their values.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

I picked up a little bird from the pavement this morning. He sat in my hand for about 20 minutes. He must've been exhausted from heat. And then he flew away. What a neat experience.

Today's jobs report shows what many Americans already knew: despite record highs in the stock market, the “economy” is not working for ordinary people.

Rather than accept reality & try to address it, Trump chooses to fire the bearers of bad news.

This is what authoritarians do.
Breaking News: President Trump moved to fire the official in charge of jobs data, claiming, without evidence, that labor numbers were being “manipulated.”
