emerging from social media hibernation momentarily to say: booksellers, librarians! (maybe others?) i have heard a rumor that digital arcs of THE BOG WIFE are now available on edelweiss. come on in, the water is brackish and full of generational trauma 💫

love this reading of Bartleby and weird fiction — unsettlement is what almost all my favorite writers do and what i strive for.

I finally wrote up most of my twitter threads on Palestine and writing from recent weeks into a short essay (combined with my belated-for-my-website cover reveal announcement) talking about ways to think about the politics of your art
Every Throne Will Fall
Slightly belated announcement of my second novel, RAKESFALL, and an essay on the dire necessity for writers to do their work, and to know what work to do, in the face of horror.

my latest short story with “Weird Horror” is now online, should you find yourself in the mood for some piano horror
What's this? A new story from the fantastic @kaychronister.bsky.social? "Sotto Voce" is an elegant, melodic tale about the dangers of following your muse. A lament. A sorrow. A queer dread.

despite KNOWING that Mike flanagan has undoubtedly filed all the edges off yet another elliptical gothic masterpiece to make a tiresome therapy drama… the temptation to watch “usher” remains… someone tell me not to do it

utterly convinced dark academia is a genre no actual academic can write, for whenever I consider it, the spooky-old-libraries-occult-secrets-aesthetic collides with the realities of administrator emails in comic sans, financial precarity, and pleading with students to do the 5-page reading

Today my story "The Sound of Children Screaming" is out in @nightmare-magazine.com. This story is my attempt to wrestle with the gun culture that leads to school shootings here in the USA.

Because school safety when it comes to shooters *is* gun culture.

The Dark is an amazing mag and would be a mammoth loss for short horror. Very worth supporting!!!
4) So, if you want to support one of the few semi-pro dark fantasy/ horror markets that is open year round to authors, and provides, every month, great fiction to its readers, consider subscribing or tossing us a few dollars every month . . .

1) I’m going to make this public: for The Dark the loss of Amazon Newsstand effectively resulted in ten thousand dollars of revenue going poof, for the entire year. (Yes, that much!) I’ve made some cost-saving changes, but I don’t hold much hope for the monies from Kindle Unlimited . . .

in a turn of events that every book i read in 4th grade should’ve prepared me for, the neurotic misunderstood and possibly unridable horse at the barn may be euthanized because he is just Too Neurotic for his owner to sell him to anyone and she can’t afford him
